Best friends. Most of us have at least one. They’re the people that we go to when things aren’t going well and they’re the first people we call when we have exciting news to share.
I’ve come up with five things that I think are really important in a best friend: He or she listens, is honest, encourages you, enjoys time spent together, and loves even when mistakes are made.
God wants to be YOUR best friend! No matter what qualities you look for in a friend, God is overflowing with all the qualities that make best friends the best!
God listens – “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation” – Psalm 5:3.
God is honest – “A faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time” – Titus 1:2.
God is encouraging – “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” – Jeremiah 29:11.
God enjoys spending time with us– “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” – 1 Timothy 2:3-4.
God loves us even when we make mistakes – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8.
I have two best friends and several very close friends, but as amazing as my friends are, they’ll never be as good as God is. God is my best friend. God never messes up and He loves me even when I do. He’s honest, never betrays my trust and wants to hang out with me all the time!
Is God your best friend? What is your favorite thing about your friendship with God?
“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends”– John 15:13.
