9 Nail Polishes We Love for Summer 2014

Judging from many of your Instagram accounts, you girls are serious about your nails! And why shouldn’t you be? Unlike dying your hair or buying an expensive dress, doing your nails is a commitment-free and inexpensive way to change up your look. Whether you do them yourself or have them done at a local salon, playing around with the shape and color of your nails is a fun and harmless way to experiment with different styles.

Summer brings about a whole new set of colors and styles for nails, and we’ve dug in to discover some great shades! We can’t wait to see what you think and hear about the colors you and your friends are trying out. Remember to upload your nail pics on Instagram if you have an account, and be sure to tag it with #ProjectInspired so that we can include you in a future Real Girls, Inspired Style roundup!

Our favorite find is the perfect yellow—not too bright, not too dark and without any added sparkle. Just bright and sunny! (Gloss Naturals, $11)

White is a trend holdover from last year that’s staying strong. Whether you go for the full white-out or use it to complement other colors you’re experimenting with, white is a standout choice that’s still basic enough to match almost anything you’re wearing. (Ulta, $8)

Metallics are a great way to change up your look and wear something really eye-catching. They’re also perfect for fancying up a more basic or plain outfit. This MAC lacquer is a little spendy, but is definitely our favorite of the on-trend metallics available online! Conserve well and it’ll last you a long time. (Bloomingdale’s, $17)

Blue may not exactly scream “summer” to you, but with the right shade, you can pull off the look of wearing the ocean right on your fingertips. Nothing beats that! (Beyond Polish, $5)

It’s not summer without a little neon thrown in, and we don’t mind it one bit! This citrus neon is a great shade for adding details to a different base coat. Though if you’re brave enough to go full on with each nail, we say go for it! (Amazon, $5.50)

Glitter has been a consistent trend for a while now. Lighten it up for the summer months, though, sticking to less heavy colors and smaller sequins. China Glaze is a great brand if you don’t want to break the bank, and we love this purple/pink/peach combo. (Amazon, $6.75)

Orange—weird as it seems—is the runaway nail color of the summer. Get in on the action with this cantaloupe shade that won’t have your eyes bleeding. (Amazon, $6)

Not only do we love the bottle, we adore this summer-friendly shade of purple, which isn’t too dark and brooding (which would be a better pick for fall). It’s called “radiant orchid” and is totally hot this year! (Topshop, $8)

It wouldn’t be summer without a little pink, and we’re drooling over this awesome shade for 2014. Not baby pink, not hot pink—a perfect middle ground that’s super classy and fun! (Essie, $8.50)

I really like the yellow nail polish the best… But, who (my age) has the money to spend 5-17$ on nail polish? I only spend 1$ on nail polish at the Dollar General…or Dollar Tree…and I top it off with some clear nail polish for extra shine and strength…and it works well. 🙂
