A Model’s Top 10 Beauty Tips

One of the advantages of having been a model is all the time I spent in the makeup chair, watching the pros at work. Often I took notes on what they were doing so that I could duplicate their magic at my own makeup table. Some of my favorite makeup artists even shared their insider tips for DIY beauty products. And I’m going to pass them along to you!

Here is a list of 10 natural foods and creative makeup tricks that are healthy, thrifty and will give your beauty routine a little boost!

Tip #1: Forget toner – use fruit!
A lot of toners at the department and drug store contain harsh chemicals that can strip the skin of natural oils and leave skin too dry. Not cool. Skip the toner and try using the juice from a pineapple or lemons on a cotton pad. Just  swipe on your face! Both these fruits contain natural lactic acids that are great for brightening the skin and making it look refreshed. Just one more reason fruits are great!

Tip #2: Don’t forget your knees and elbows!
How many times have you felt self-conscious about these two body parts because they can look dry and discolored (do you see me raising my hand?)? Here’s a bleaching mask that will work wonders on these areas: Add the juice of a few lemons (2-4) to 1 cup of powdered milk. Then, add enough water to mix into a paste. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes and then rinse off with an exfoliating pad or brush.  Now get your cute skirt or dress on and rock it!

Tip #3: Make your hair extra shiny!
There are so many shampoos on the market now that it can be hard to figure out the best one to use. Skip the guesswork – buy whatever smells great, then make your own shampoo concoction by adding a couple Vitamin E caplets to the mix! Rub them into the shampoo in your hand and then lather. Your hair will be extra luminous!

Tip #4: Deep-condition your hair…naturally!
Use an overripe avocado (I know! So simple!). Just mash it up in a bowl, and spread evenly through your hair. Take a plastic bag and tie it on top of your hair when it’s evenly distributed so it absorbs better. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes, and then rinse out. Avocados DO have a purpose other than with chips!

Tip #5: Master the smoky look you see in magazines!
You see the smoky eye on everyone from models to actresses to news anchors. Here’s a simple and effective way to get the look: Use a medium-toned shadow and brush it over your entire lid. Deepen the color in the crease and on the outer half of your eyelid away from your nose. You can use a darker shade like dark brown for the contrast, or just wet the eye shadow brush for the same effect.  Blend, blend, blend. Let the colors fade into each other. Girl, get ready to turn heads!

Tip #6: Brighten your eyes with this easy trick!
Another little secret I learned from being a model – to make the whites of your eyes pop, use a navy eyeliner pencil in the bottom inner rim of your eye. The contrast of the color against your eyes will make them look great. You’ll instantly look more awake. Hello, I’m ready for my close up!

Tip #7: Make your lips even poutier!
To plump up your pout and get the most voluminous effect, use a highlighter pen or pencil and dab a touch in your cupids bow on your top lip. Then trace the highlighter along your bottom lip outside of the lip liner. Get ready to chase away the boys!

Tip #8: Change up your lip color!
Lipstick is a great way to add color to your face and to enhance your look. Use what you have in your drawer to create a brand new look. A simple and easy way to spice it up is to add a dab of your blush on top. It creates a totally different shade and you didn’t have to spend a penny!

Tip #9: Get your makeup off easily and fast!
It’s a pain to remove your eye makeup at the end of the night. A simple way to take it off is use baby wipes! They are hygienic, soothing and won’t harm your face like many other harsh chemicals in makeup remover. It’s also so perfect if you’re on the go. The travel size packs can fit into any bag.

Tip #10: Create a shimmering face!
A great way to make your skin look absolutely luminous is mix white eye shadow into your foundation and then pat evenly over the face. You’ll create a brightened and pretty look that’s fast and convenient!

Wanting to look and feel beautiful is as old as time. Before the age of processed makeup and hair products, smart girls turned to natural resources to look their best. With these tips, you’re on your way to your best look. Have fun!

Love these tips! Can’t wait to try them. Something that I have found to work great for me to help get rid of pimples is by opening up Advil liquid gel capsules and putting the liquid on your pimple with a q-tip about twice a day. It doesn’t have bad chemicals in it and it doesn’t dry out your face. 🙂

To get makeup off easily, I use lotion. I just rub some on a tissue and then rub it onto my eye lids and stuff. It works like a charm, and smells good 🙂

Right now im digging BB creams.
Currently im using the garnier one I wouldn’t recommend it for people with oily skin but I have combination skin and I just use the right primer set it with some powder finish with finishing spray and your good to go.
    🙂
I really don’t like clogging my pores that’s why I love BB creams!

    For the deep conditioning,
I really can’t use avocados because they darken my hair too much I have light brown hair and I really don’t know what kind of deep conditioner I should use.

I used to wear massive amounts of black eyeliner when I was only twelve but now I can’t remember the last time I wore makeup, and since i hardly ever get outside, the most time consuming thing I do with my face is pluck my eyebrows and struggle with my acne. XD

    Dear Nicole,
Thank you so much for the tips! They will definitely help in the future 😀 In fact, I’m considering doing some modeling, because I have received some offers. Do you have any tips that will help stay on God’s path? Or know of any certain agencies that will help me out along the way?

I have a few questions about some of the things said in here:
what kind of plastic bag? do you mean like a plastic ziploc bag that you usually use for food?
and for the lemon or pineapple juice, do you have to squeeze the juice from the pineapple or can you use canned pineapple juice that you would drink
and one more, where do you buy the vitamin c caplets?
    thanks for the tips nicole!

About using lemons on your face, don’t let it sit for too long. If you get to a point where it kinda burns, get it off then. If you don’t your face can get red, but it is a good idea. Just be sure to not leave it on for too long.

One way to bleach your teeth at home is to make a paste out of lemon/lime juice and mix it with baking soda and brush your teeth with it, my sister and I do it on occasions and it works super well! Also to have soft lips, after brushing your teeth use your wet tooth brush to exfoliate your (clean) lips and don’t forget to moisturize!

Just a few of my beauty secrets 😉

Okay this may be a very odd question, but the 2nd tip says the treatment bleaches your skin, does that mean it makes the elbow’s and knee’s a lighter color, or does it mean it tone’s with your skin’s color?

I’m not happy with all of the emphasis of physical beauty on this site. You’re supposed to love the way God made you. The Bible says “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” (Peter 3:3-4)
Take off the make-up and let your smile do the trick 🙂

I agree that inner beauty is far more important, but there is nothing wrong with wanting your inner beauty to shine through on the outside and take care of God’s temple, making it even more glorious.

but there is nothing wrong with wanting to enhance the beauty that God gave you. I love makeup and God. And I do understand the need to be beautiful on the inside. But what’s wrong with wanting to enhance your outer beauty while letting your inner beauty shine?

I already have really long-thin legs, it it seems like a lot of times this year jeggings/skinny jeans are the only pants that don’t require a belt for me. Personally, I don’t like something that is high wasted– it feels uncomfortable. Too low… feels like it is always falling down. Even my mom would say my pants are modest– adn she is tougher on me than dad!

Any tips on putting eyeliner on the bottom lid? It always ends up to thick and weird looking.

    • Project Inspired

Posted by sunshinedaises on August 20, 2012 at 10:30

when i put eyeliner on my lower lid, i either do what lizzie said and apply right on the water line, or i aim for my lower eyelashes and i use small, gentle strokes to apply the color there. also, when i’m done applying eyeliner, i wipe my under-eye area with makeup remover and use a wipe to touch up the eyeliner so it’s not super heavy 🙂

Use a Q-tip to wipe off excess eyeliner. That’s what I do.

        Posted by lv2playmusic on August 6, 2012 at 05:30

And wet n wild liner pencil is easier if you are just starting to learn eyeliner techniques. it’s glides on really smoothly and doesn’t look to thick because you don’t have to go over it again and again. and when you use the q-tip, be gentle because the skin under your eye is incredibly sensitive. Sometimes, it also needs to have water on it.

The way to make the line look it’s slimmest is by applying it on the waterline of your eye with a non-liquid liner. This can make your eye appear smaller sometimes when you use a darker color, though. Something pretty cool an different that I have tried was using a white liner on the waterline to make your eyes pop and look wide awake! Hope this helped ❀‿❀

a really good and and not really expensive acne treatment is astringent. the equate brand is not expensive, and if you use it once a night after you take your makeup off. just squirt some on a cottonball and let it do its magic! I love it, and also a good exfoliator is Equate Apricot Scrub! Use it in the shower! It’s so easy and it really does smell like an apricot! Hope I helped!

Hey, I don’t wear make up, but i read this anyway for when I do. And I was shocked. You teach us, Nicole, to show our inner beauty, but this article made it seem like make up was the only way. I was most shocked when you said, “Girl, get ready to turn some heads.” These are some great tips, and I’ll maybe even try one or two of them, I just think the wrong emphasis was put into this article. I apologize for any offence.

I see how you would think that, but I also think it is better to look here for makeup tips, when they aren’t heavily put on. I love that it is aimed to look natural or that only one part of the face is highlighted, unlike some pics in magazines. I am the kind who wears makeup, and before I read these tips, I used everything under the sun. I love it because it helps me know how to highlight one feature of my face instead of putting heavy makeup all over. I think this was aimed for the girls who wear makeup so they don’t do anything to heavy and not wear as much as secular magazines say is necessary. Don’t know if htat cleared anything up, but I do agree to some extent. I thought the same at first,
