Alexandra Daddario Is Beautiful in Blue and We Give One Star a Makeover!

Ladies, in a past post titled Who Do You Dress For? I wrote, “As Christians, we should always strive to glorify God. It’s not difficult to dress for Him. Just look at your outfit and ask whether you’d feel comfortable if Jesus suddenly walked into the room.”

The purpose for these Modest Is Hottest posts goes way beyond fashion. Whatever we do in our lives, we should do it with our primary focus on the glorification of Christ. And this includes how we dress!

With that stated, let’s check out this week’s selection!

Olivia+Wilde

Olivia Wilde

I think this is such a great dress. I love the way the top of the dress curves, covering the bust completely. I’m also a fan of the high-low style and the color red! The dress fits the figure beautifully without being too tight!

Alexandra-Daddario

Alexandra Daddario

This is such a pretty dress, and for so many reasons. The blue color and pattern are unique and the fabric is so feminine. I also love the shape of the dress and the detailed, sheer shoulders.

Lily-Collins

Lily Collins

This is a simple dress enhanced with a fun floral pattern. I love the casual feel…so cute!!!

Lucy-Hale-front

Lucy Hale

While I love the black and white contrast, the petite belt, the fun lacy look and the overall concept of this outfit, I am disappointed by the details. The underskirt is too short, revealing too much leg under the lace.

Lucy-Hale-back

Also, the back of the skirt is shorter, and the back of the top is open and shows too much skin. Had the underskirt and lace over it hit the top of the knee, and had the top been closed more around the shoulders and at the back, this outfit would have been perfectly modest and absolutely adorable!

Poll

Which of our three modest looks is your favorite?

    I love all of these!!!

But while I agree Lucy’s dress is ever so slightly short, I think the back of the top is fine. Thanks for posting this 🙂

“Just look at your outfit and ask whether you’d feel comfortable if Jesus suddenly walked into the room.”

    I like that 🙂
    Also here is another one:
“Ask yourself,”Would I feel comfortable wearing this to my grandparents house?” if not, then you probably shouldn’t wear it” Funny xD but actually really true.

Okay girlies, i Just have to point out something here…
I notice that some girls always see the “immodest dress” and say that they dont think its immodest or that they would even wear it, that theres nothing wrong with it.
But i would just like to remind you girls that when we judge the modesty of something, it is not wise to judge it based on what YOU as a female think. Many outfits that we see as cute/pretty, guys would look at it on a girl and lust. We must think from a males perspective, cuz that is who we are trying to keep from stumbling. When you judge an outfits modesty, look at it and say, could this outfit lead a guys eyes to my theighs/cleavage/butt/privates or not? That is the question.
And also, you can be fully covered, bearing no skin and still cause a guy to lust if your clothes are tight enough.

Unfortunately I couldn’t decide which one to pick othe over Alexandra’s dress or Oliva’s dress, and then I finally decided and I picked Oliva’s dress because it’s so simple, chic, original and one of a kind.

Ummm…. Can we please talk about Amandas dress????????? That’s MY FAVORITE!! it is so pretty and modest and I love her hair and accessories. The other dresses are nice too and I agree with the makeover. I just think Amanda should have gotten a little more than just a picture 🙂

I love the rounded top of Dress 1, but think Dress 2 is too short, and Dress 3 is modest but not necessarily flattering on non-celebrity types. SHE looks gorgeous but I don’t know that that style would work for everyone.

    1. I love the color of Olivia’s dress, and I like the idea of the style of it BUT I don’t like the length. I’m not a fan of that “awkward” length where it’s not around the knees and it’s not full length. It just looks tacky to me.

    2. I really do love Alexandra’s dress. It’s a great length, the pattern is beautiful and I like the almost mesh top part, but it would not be a dress I would wear. I couldn’t see myself in it.

    3. Lily Collins is so beautiful in this dress and I love it. I love the pattern and the style of it. I could definitely wear this dress. The style is actually the type I’ve been looking for.

    4. I’ve always been a huge fan of Lucy Hale, PLL is amazing and I think she is super talented. I absolutely LOVE this dress. I don’t really think it’s immodest. Yes, the underskirt is a little short BUT i think the over top of the skirt is long enough and covers enough to make it look more modest. The back to me is modest. I think it’s fine to show some skin on the back, it’s not like it’s completely open.

Honestly Lucy and Lily’s dress are my absolute faves from this week 😀

Quite frankly, they don’t seem to be offending anyone except you, Eurydice. This site is catered towards and filled with girls who are Christian and who are trying to live a good life and have, with some range, the same idea as to what that means, particularly concerning dress. It’s not a feminist site, and that’s really not a problem. Personally, I enjoy Modest Makeovers because I like looking at pictures of celebrities at red carpet events, but I don’t enjoy seeing, in other articles, pictures of scantily-clad celebrities. Believe it or not, their display of skin *offends* me, and my being offended at that is the equal of your being offended at this. Your taking offense at my being offended isn’t going to do anyone any good, and is an argument that can never end or make progress, considering that it defies all logic. By all means argue against objectification or oppression of women, or whatever you believe is problematic here, but please do not claim to be offended. Being offended is subjective, and opinions worthy of action need to be clear and objective.

Eurydice thank you for sending me the emails- I have gotten them, and for now I am choosing to continue the Modest is Hottest makeover posts. They are fun, and are not meant to “offend” anyone. Again it’s not the person wearing it, we are talking about the garment itself and how it could be altered to be more modest. Not because we are suggesting the person wearing it is not a good person, or anything about their character. Yes modesty does depend on an individual’s preference, and I feel there is nothing wrong with them. Of course I’m not perfect, but I try my best to live a life honoring God. Again thank you for speaking out and letting your voice be heard.

Oh my gosh!!! I just realized who Alexandra Daddario is…. She plays Kate on White Collar which is like my all time favorite show and she also plays Annabeth Chase from Parcy Jackson, and she is like totally beautiful! I am suddenly like so completely happy about this…….. Though I am not completely sure why… Haha oh well I guess that is just kinda like me

    1) I love this dress; it is my favorite of the four. Its sleek cut flatters her figure perfectly, and that color…wow! The hemline of the dress is very elegant and feminine, and her makeup, accessories…perfect!
    2) This is also a very pretty dress. I love the fact that even though it’s fancy, it is still very youthful and fun. The print is fabulous, and the dark blue detailing is perfect. And the best accessory she has? Her gorgeous smile!
    3) The dress is overall pretty cute, but I think it looks a little too junior on Lily, who is a grown adult. She still pulls it off pretty well with her youthful, fresh face and hair. I love the accessories, though; that bracelet is the color of her hair, cool!
    4) This dress is not only immodest, but also quite ugly. It may just be me–I absolutely hate lace–but it appears that she sewed a bunch of doilies together, dyed half of them black, and threw on a thin strip of metal around her waist. The dress is messy and disorganized; it looks more like a craft project.

    Posted by mkay77 on August 5, 2013 at 17:42

Olivia Wilde’s: The dress looks lovely on her, but definitely something I do not see myself wearing (not because it’s strapless). Red doesn’t really flatter me :/

Alexandra Daddario’s: I like it, but I wish the skirt was just a tiny bit longer. It’s not immodest, but I think it would be a little more flattering 🙂

Lily Collins’: A lovely dress, but it does look a bit…drab. The colours are just a bit frumpy. Still pretty and modest though.

Lucy Hale’s dress WOULD be my favorite if only the underskirt. Just make the underskirt hit the knee and the under-tank-top-thing (I have no idea what to classify it as) cover the back, it would be lovely. I have an all-white version of the dress (kind of) that covers the back entirely and hits right above the knee; it was awesome with a thin pink belt 🙂

  28. AllisonGrace

Posted by AllisonGrace on August 5, 2013 at 17:33

Yikes, not a huge fan this week. Olivia’s is a lovely color. She pulls her dress off well, it’s just so plain to me. The second is a lovely shape, not big on the pattern. The third bothers me. It’s the same length as the so called “immodest” dress if you really look at it. Plus, Lucy’s is less likely to be blown up by the wind, while the other is very loose and flimsy. I still don’t agree with the back thing. I think it’s silly and nitpicky. I really do think these articles are a great idea, with the exception of the “modest makeover.”

    • PolkaDot

Posted by PolkaDot on August 6, 2013 at 06:35

Yeah, I guess your right. Lily’s dress is about the same length of Lucy’s dress! I would wear tights under Lily’s dress to make it more modest! But other than that Lily’s dress is not as tight or revealing! The concept of Lucy’s dress is super cute, but her take on the concept needs a little work.

Lucy Hale’s is my favorite BY FAR. Usually I agree with the modesty standards, and yeah this is a bit short but, at least its pretty:) IMO the others are all pretty frumpy. (sorry) The first one is okay, but I hate awkward length hems like that.
