    Back-to-School Fashion: Fall 2014

Even though it’s still summer, you might already be thinking about your first-day-of-school outfit! Maybe this is even an important milestone year and you’re becoming a high school or college freshman! Whatever it is, the first day is always full of jitters and hopefully a few pictures for the scrapbook. Here is our roundup of the hottest looks this fall!

Fun Prints – Whether on a top, dress, skirt or pants, crazy patterns are EVERYWHERE on EVERYTHING. Try complementing the pieces with a subtle solid color. It’s best not to spend too much on these printed items because they probably won’t last through very many seasons and will really stand out in photos, so you won’t want to wear them every day.

    Skirt

    Junior’s Skater Skirt, Target, $18

Layering – Throwing on a blazer, cardigan, vest, jean jacket or flannel shirt is both practical and very trendy. Again, try to layer a solid on a pattern, or the reverse, to keep it from looking too overwhelming. The layered look is awesome in the fall because temperatures are normally very different from day to night, and you can always remove or add a layer.

    Kimono

    Junior’s Fringe Kimono, Target, $23

Backpack Purses – Finally, gorgeous and feminine backpack purses are available all over the place. This super functional and casual look comes in and out every few years, and luckily for those of you carrying books and supplies, it’s very in. The variety to choose from is also very vast, including structured, studded, leader, slouchy and everything in between.

    Backpack

BDG Canvas Army Backpack, Urban Outfitters, $49

Lace-Up Shoes – It’s the best when fashion also happens to be comfortable! That’s why we’re stoked that ankle boots, wingtips and canvas flats are sturdy and supportive enough to walk in all day. If you’re wearing skinny jeans or leggings with your boots, tuck the bottoms into the shoes. If you’re wearing flats, try cuffing the pants at the end.

    Boots

    Madden Girl Mistley, Zappos, $54

Midi/Stackable Rings – These tiny accessories are an adorable accent to an outfit. You can wear several on each finger and even mix the golds and silvers. Designers have been really creative by adding in lots of shapes and spikes that really allow you to show off your personality.

    Rings

    Crown Midi Ring, BaubleBar, $20

    1. My “fashion” choices are: white or navy polo? Tan skirt or tan pants? Gray & pink Converse or black Converse? White hair bow or navy hair bow? SO MANY OPTIONS–I CAN’T EVEN DECIDE!

      *Sarcasm 😉 * Yay for uniforms. 😛

    2. I just got a backpack purse (although much smaller than the one pictured above). I especially love it, because I can put my book in there if the book is the right size! I am a reader, so having a place to carry my book – not in my hand – is so nice.

    3. I plan to wear a t-shirt, jeans, and some sandals I got recently. The sandals at so much easier to wear than flip-flops though a little tougher to put on than either flip-flops or tennis shoes but that’s not a big problem, considering I don’t mind taking a minute or two extra. The rest is very simple to go on so adding a bit of flair which is COMFORTABLE really helps a lot.

    4. This is really cool, but I wish there was an occasional article for homeschoolers about something or another….. it can get annoying always being left out of all the articles and magazines and everything else especially during back to school season. Just saying…… (@Nicole)

      • I’m a homeschooled too and I don’t think by back to school anyone tries to leave us out. I qualify myself as going back to school even though I am not physically going for the majority of my classes. I can wear cute clothes at home too. 🙂 things like that bug me too so I get it.
