PI Girls, I want to introduce you to a website called Beauty I AM, founded by Ashton Roark, who is a speaker and actress who wants to change culture and discuss TRUE beauty! Her website is a compilation of musicians, actors, models and screenwriters who have discovered the real meaning of beauty and want to create a community for artists.
I love her recent blog on how the odds of life can possibly be in your favor. She discusses hardship and depression, and how sometimes life seems to fall apart, but when you stand your ground, you can end up being a stronger person. Here she discusses the battle of being brave and having endurance.
“Part of the battle is knowing how long you can stand the fire. Most things in life take time. How long are you willing to wait? Our desires come with great responsibility and we need time to prepare ourselves to manage the very things we desire. This is where most people throw in the towel. Even though they have trained they have not developed inner endurance. Pain drives them to QUIT rather than to view this as a test that will soon pass. I firmly believe we face challenges in life to force us to step into the reality of who we were created to be. The pain is temporary….” (Read more here.)
The site gives support to those seeking community who desire “…wisdom and counsel from those who have gone before, and most importantly, they need to remain grounded in their identity.” Ashton blogs about spirit care and identity; interviews artists; discusses true (inner) beauty, fitness, wellness, good choices and lifestyle; and more! Below is my interview by Ashton. Read more below about music, inner beauty and so forth.
Beauty I AM: How has your perspective of beauty evolved over the years?
Christi Given: I’ve learned that inner beauty is the most precious and valuable thing a person can have. Outer looks fade, but character, integrity and loving others genuinely is priceless and beautiful.
BIA: If you had one song to sing, what would it be and why?
CG: I love the song “Amazing Grace,” because it is about how broken humanity is and yet how much grace, love and mercy we all need. It is inspiring and is a classic song. My new single is called “The Other Side” and is a modern version of this song.
BIA: How has music helped you personally transition through different seasons of life?
CG: Music is always there to turn on and listen to whether you are having a great day or a a not-so-happy day. Music is a means of freedom, escape, a refuge, but it is also a gateway into God’s presence through worship, which is why I love it so much. Music is a universal language and I have not met one person who doesn’t like music. Of course we all have our different genres we enjoy, but music is very healing and can help us relate to others.
I have definitely listened to music when I needed it during hard times in life, like when my Dad passed away when I was 14. It’s also interesting how a song can bring back so many memories, too, and how we all have a unique soundtrack of life.
BIA: What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given?
CG: There is a Bible verse I love—that God will finish what He starts in us. I love that we can do what we love to do and that there is purpose in our lives. We don’t have to worry about competing with others or feel insecure, but rather do what we have uniquely been made to do.
I also love the quote “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Think of all the people who have created many inventions such as the light bulb, the computer, the car, the airplane…if they doubted their ability, then we wouldn’t have these amazing inventions. Keep doing what you are called to do, and you WILL succeed! Those who are successful never give up. You can do it!
