As you can imagine, the making of the book Project Inspired: Tips & Tricks to Staying True to Who You Are was filled with good times. Nicole has so much information and wisdom she wants to impart to “her girls.” She feels the love for all of you so deeply. I wish I could relay that to each one of you individually. She seems to feel such a huge responsibility because of all God has blessed her with in her life.
Hearing Nicole’s story in person was really heart-wrenching. I mean, I’m looking at this striking young woman—yes, she’s just that beautiful in person! And to hear that she endured so much rejection and assaults on her self-esteem during her modeling days…. It made me angry to hear what that world does to the hearts and minds of young girls. The Bible tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made, while the modeling business tells girls they’re nothing but a collection of flaws on camera. Grrr.
I loved being able to work in Nicole’s home and meet her family. Her son, Elijah, is ADORABLE and he’s so smart. Nicole is just a normal mom. She can’t stand to hear her baby cry and work would stop while she attended to her precious son. After a long day’s work of organizing thoughts and settling on the best makeup/skincare to feature in the book, Nicole would feed Elijah and then we would go out to dinner with Eric, her husband. There’s so much love between the two of them. You know that couple you’ve seen at church and announce to your friends, “Relationship goals!”? This is totally Eric and Nicole.
Eric and Nicole took me to dinner at one of Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants. (I know, so bad, but I am a huge Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan and it was amazing to see the settings I’ve seen on television so many times.)
The highlight of this was actually getting to see Nicole’s makeup table. She is really thoughtful about what goes onto her skin and she really does mix it up between cheap drugstore products and the occasional M•A•C lipstick. With her experience, she knows so much about each product and where to save money and where to splurge. It was amazing getting insight into beauty world.
The best thing is being around Nicole. Being beautiful comes naturally to her, not just on the outside, but she literally has nothing negative to say about anyone. She sees the best in everyone and focuses on that. It’s like having a cheerleader for optimism 24/7. Have you ever been around someone like that? Who is all sparkle and light? That is Nicole. Her world might be so vastly different from mine (and maybe yours, too), but what is the same is her heart for Jesus.
