Caitlin Crosby and “The Giving Keys”
Written by Christi Given | January 14, 2012
There is definitely a rising up of young Christian leaders today, especially in Hollywood. I have been praying and have seen the transformation, not only in friends’ lives, but also in the music and entertainment industry. It is encouraging and inspiring!
A great example of someone who uses her gifts and talents for good and shows how to be selfless is actress and singer/songwriter Caitlin Crosby.
Crosby has been seen on MTV’s “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” and recently toured to promote her album “Flawz.”
Crosby promotes love not only through her music, but also through her giving. Crosby began “The Giving Keys” with a simple hotel key. She decided to engrave words on the keys and gave them out for fun to friends and as gifts.
One day, Crosby came across a homeless couple in Hollywood and took a step of faith. She came up with the idea of engraving inspiring words such as “Hope,” “Faith,” “Love,” and “Miracle” on the keys and hired the couple to be her business partners. Not only did she give them a job, but also they are no longer homeless. “The Giving Keys” was born:
Proceeds go to keeping Cera and Rob off the streets and in transitional homes/counseling/school/shelter and once we complete that goal, we will use the extra money to donate to the shelters and transitional homes that were most effective in supporting Cera and Rob.
The idea is to spread the love by giving your key away to someone in need. The keys are approximately $30 and you can special order yours online. Who knows, maybe you can change someone’s life too, just by giving out love.
“Love never fails…” (1 Corinthians 13:8).
I am so inspired by her decision to stop, take the time to help someone, and create a gift not only for this couple, but for hundreds of people. You can read more stories of how peoples’ lives were turned around and uplifted by the keys, and also how they received or gave away theirs.
What do you think? Are you going to buy a key?
