Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel”

This week I wanted to cover a song by the winner of American Idol season 4, Carrie Underwood! Some PI Girls suggested I cover her music in the last “Mondays with Christi” live chat, and I decided to sing “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” (Psst! If you want to participate in the next chat, held right here on Project Inspired on Mondays at 4 PM PT, click here to learn more!)

This week’s cover is a simplified version on an acoustic guitar. I like this song because it is relatable to so many people; it tells the story of a woman who surrenders for Jesus to take control. We get so busy in life, and it can take extreme circumstances to wake people up spiritually. I think Underwood communicates this in a realistic way. Some of my favorite lyrics are:

“It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said I’m sorry for the way
    I’ve been living my life
I know I’ve got to change
    So from now on tonight

    (Chorus): Jesus take the wheel
    Take it from my hands
Cause I can’t do this on my own
    I’m letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I’m on
    Oh, Jesus take the wheel…”

Watch my version of “Jesus, Take the Wheel” below:

PI Girls, do you relate to this song? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
