Ciara’s Husband, NFL Quarterback Russell Wilson, Publicly Shares His Testimony and Faith in Christ

Popular singer Ciara and her then-boyfriend Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson made news back in 2015 when they declared that they would be abstaining from sexual intimacy until marriage. As Wilson put it, “I [asked Ciara] right then and there, ‘what would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table and just did it Jesus’ way?’ I said to her, and she completely agreed: ‘Could we love each other without that?’ If you can really love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody.'”

Wilson married Ciara the following year, in 2016, and now is making headlines again, this time sharing his testimony of having been a self-proclaimed “bad boy” before coming to Christ. He shared recently that, as a middle schooler, he had been the school bully. That all began to change not long after. He shared, “I was going to church to see the cute girls, and then in sixth grade, I had a dream that my dad passed away. And that Sunday, I went to church, and I just start bawling all of sudden. And that’s when my life kind of changed.”

    For Your Glory!

A post shared by Russell Wilson (@dangerusswilson) on

From then on, Wilson has been a committed Christ-follower, stating, “I’ve found peace and hope and love and joy in Jesus, and He’s the way and the only way.” Wilson has been a very successful quarterback with a prestigious career, but he is more concerned with being a faithful Christian than anything else. Well known for sharing Scripture on his social media feeds, he also has this open declaration on his Twitter profile: “I want to Love like Jesus!”

While it can sometimes feel as if we are all alone in our efforts to stand for Christ and like there are no uplifting celebrity examples, we are finding more and more that that is not completely the case. Between encouraging social media posts from Justin Bieber and the example of Ciara and Russel Wilson, there are well-known people all over the world that are standing firm in what’s right and being faithful to honor Christ in their lives. May this encourage you as you purpose to do the same!
