Could You Forgive After a Tragedy? Watch the Incredible Story Behind Matthew West’s “Forgiveness”

Girlies, I know that some of you struggle to forgive those who’ve hurt you in the past.

Maybe you feel angry and humiliated, and maybe you think that the person who wronged you is not deserving of your forgiveness. But before you make your final decision on forgiveness, take a look at Renee Napier’s story told by Christian songwriter and singer Matthew West.

It’s in two parts, but both videos are definitely worth watching, especially the second one.

Part 2 of this amazing story:

Eric Smallridge was released from prison this month.

Following is the lyrical video for “Forgiveness.” “Forgiveness” is featured on West’s upcoming album “Into the Light.”

Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34).

Even in the face of a terrible tragedy, Napier was able to forgive the man who killed her daughter. But it took a strength that only God could instill within her. And it was because of that same amazing faith that she could go further and open her arms out to him.

Ladies, how difficult is it for you to forgive? What did you think of these videos? Did they inspire you?

Amazing. it must have taken a strength that most people don’t have to forgive after what happened to her.

This put me in tears. I know I need to forgive my father for all that he put us through. He used to have serious anger problems and him and my mommy got into fights. He would scrath her, punch her,put her on the ground, throw her into walls. I was a witness to it all.Because of these two terrible fights,we had to leave home and stay with his mother(my grandmother)twice. The third time, she tried to come home, but they got into a third fight, and she went to stay with her mother(my other grandmother)After that,I HATED him. I would be terrible to him,and I had a bad attitude because of it. I would would take it out on my loved ones. Then,my mommy got fed up with it and told me to start improving my attitude and start treating him and my loved ones better.(Including her) I’m still working on forgivess, but this story has really showed me what forgiveness can do,now I am more determined than ever to forgive him and work on my attitude. They are still together, and their marriage is stronger than ever. 😀

That was SO amazing! I didn’t know that this song was actually inspired by a story. (I mean obviously it was inspired by Jesus and His death, but I think you knew what I meant.) This song had really helped me when I was a little upset with my older sister, and it really blessed me.

My best friend was killed in a car accident over a year ago. Her boyfriend was driving the car and was racing some kid. On impact he was going 116 mph. He lost control and after hitting the guard rail and flying over lanes of traffic the car stopped in the median and they were both thrown out of the car (neither were wearing their seat belts ). To make it worst she was 5 months pregnant. At the hospital she was pronounced dead but the baby was still alive after much effort both my friend and the baby died. The boyfriend survived but will always live with the regret of what he did. The worst part is he was on the cell phone while racing. The whole conversation was played back in court and you can hear her screaming for him to stop. I was unwilling to except the fact that it had actually happened and my best friend was dead. After it all happened and I finally excepted it all, I was unwilling to forgive him. But through camp counselors over the summer, my youth pastor’s wife, friends, Bible verses and God himself I finally forgave him after hearing this story and song. I gave a lesson on it in Sunday School and it was truly inspiring. You feel like the weight of the world is off your shoulders. Forgiveness.

I heard this story on KLove and both my mom and I loved it. <3 The things I would need to forgive people for are MUCH smaller than hers, but STILL she forgave!!! This is such a great example!

Wow….wow……this made me want to cry. The evidence of whether we are Christians are not and how much God consumes our lives is our ability to forgive!!! So powerful!!! They will know we are Christians by our love. Amen!!! Blessings.
