Did You Know? God Calls You His Bride!

PI Girls, as you know, I love reading God’s Word and I will be contributing a couple of articles a month on a “Bible study” topic for you. My prayer is that these pieces will deepen your faith, stir a hunger for more truth and spark an interest in other facets of your relationship with Christ.

This week, I will be discussing how the Lord shows His love for the church as a husband loves his wife (his bride) and how the Bible speaks of Israel as God’s beloved bride. There are many scriptures that indicate this, and symbolic (and literal) words and pictures are communicated throughout the Word. There are even metaphors of the wedding feast (wedding banquet), which is the invitation of salvation (the Kingdom of God) to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, to which all are invited. This is in reference to the Kingdom of God—we are all invited, but not everyone joins or responds to the invite.

Many have been asked to come to the greatest party in all of eternity, but many deny the opportunity. Those who choose to accept the invitation will eat at the wedding table with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and will be joined with those who have gone before us in the glory of the Lord. How exciting is the picture of the reunion of the church to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Here are some verses that represent what I mean about the Kingdom of God—like the wedding banquet and also how God calls you His bride (that He is your husband—meaning He is jealous for you and loves you like a husband cherishes His wife).

A certain man gave a great supper and invited many…” —Luke 14:16

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.” —Revelation 19:7

“For your royal husband delights in your beauty; honor Him, for He is your Lord.” —Psalm 45:11

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and old earth had disappeared. And the sea was gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God our of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” —Revelation 21:1-3

Project Inspired readers, Ephesians 5 even tells us that husbands are called to LOVE their wives like Christ LOVES the church. (This is another example of how the church is like the bride and is to be cherished like a husband honoring and loving his wife.) Powerful, isn’t it? I believe it’s a beautiful illustration of God’s love for us, and shows us how much he longs for a relationship with his bride.

PI Girls, you are beautiful princesses cherished and loved by God the Father! He longs to delight over you, to give you abundance (John 10:10) and to fill your life with the good all the days of your life! (Psalm 23) Keep seeking your heavenly Father, and remember you are a bride in the church!

“For your maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name…” –Isaiah 54

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” –Isaiah 61:10

This is a wonderful encouragement! Especially for those girls out there who feel left not having a boyfriend, or who feel unloved. Thanks so much, Christi!
