Finally! A Fashion Week That Welcomes Modesty!
Written by T.M. Gaouette | October 1, 2012
Ladies, for all you fashionistas desperate for more stylish but modest clothing, do I have the best news for you!
The fashion world will soon be debuting chic and modest clothing in the first Christian Fashion Week!!!
I’m so excited to share this news with you. On Project Inspired, we’ve often discussed why as Christians we should strive to be modest in our appearance. If you’ve missed our posts on modesty, you may be interested in “Style Guide for Christian Girls: Modesty” and “What Do Guys Really Think About Modesty?”
But striving to be modest is not easy with the current fashion selections. The problem that most young Christian girls face these days is the lack of modest clothes that are actually fashionable. Young shoppers are all too often offered garments that are way too short on the leg and with necklines that plunge without shame.
Christian Fashion Week is a huge step in the right direction for Christian clothing.
The vision of Christian Fashion Week™ is to create the world’s first series of fashion shows and events around the idea of fashion with a Christian worldview, considering Christian values such as modesty, boldness, and true style (ChristianFashionWeek.com).
Modest fashion doesn’t mean dressing in a burlap sack. We girls don’t have to relinquish our sense of style–we just need to ensure that it always glorifies God. And there’s nothing wrong with Christians dressing fashionably either, as long as we don’t become obsessed with fashion. And as long as we don’t allow our fashion to compromise our desire to please God.
This event will define beauty in the fashion industry, featuring established and emerging Fashion Designers from around the world (ChristianFashionWeek.com).
Christian Fashion Week begins with a Models4Jesus VIP Reception on February 8, followed by a swimwear fashion show for female attendees only the next day. Men and boys are invited to visit with the exhibitors in fellowship during this time. The main fashion show follows.
Ladies! The success of this event determines the future of modest fashion, so let’s offer our support by praying that this is a highly successful event. Just as Christian music and movies have slowly trickled into the mainstream forum, I pray that Christian fashion also finds its way into the stores we visit regularly.
Fashion today is typically risqué, even for young shoppers, and I hate to think where it’s heading. If Christian fashion is as stylish as this event promises, it could mean more choices for fun and cute styles that don’t compromise our dignity. How exciting!
The first Christian fashion week is scheduled for February 8-9, 2013 in Tampa, Florida. Visit ChristianFashionWeek.com for more details.
PI ladies, are you as excited about this news as I am?!
