Get Creative with Your Long Hair–Try These Fun Styles!

I have long hair, which I like, but it seems like so much work and I’m always running out of ideas for fixing it. The end result is usually me pulling it away from my face and into a twisted lump at the top of my head, secured with a pencil! Very stylish–not!

But the truth is, I’m wasting ample opportunity. Long hair has tons of styling potential! So I recently looked up some of my favorite celebrities who’ve done great things to snaz up their long locks. Take a look at my selections below, featuring AnnaSophia Robb, Carrie Underwood, Emma Watson, Mandy Moore and Katie Holmes.

Following are some fun ways to wear your hair down.

In the first image, Robb’s hair is casually down, except for a small portion pinned back. Underwood sports a similar look, but with more hair at the top pulled back. She left some hair loose at the sides to blend with the rest of her loose locks. Watson demonstrates how to highlight your hair with a ribbon tied over the head–if you love wearing your hair down but want a change, try adding a ribbon or scarf! These are such fun ways to enjoy your long hair without it getting in the way.

Up-dos are great for all occasions. Check out the following looks.

These are more casual up-dos that can be worn every day, as well as for special occasions. Robb has her hair casually pulled back with her bangs left hanging naturally. She finished her look with a fun bow at the back. Moore has a messy bun sitting on the top of her head. I love how it looks natural, as if she just scraped it up then and there, but it still looks so stylish. Holmes’ look is another great style that’s not too dressy for everyday or too casual for a more formal event. These sure beat my signature pencil-secured bun!

If you’re looking for something more formal, how about the following two examples.

I love, love, love Watson’s look here. It’s so cute. She has a more formal style with the front brushed neatly to the side. It’s pulled back with some height at the crown and pinned up. But the elegant look is dressed with some fun curls and an adorable flower. Underwood has a similar but maturer look. Most of her hair is pulled neatly back, with a slight beehive affect. She brushed the front neatly across the forehead like Watson, and left a few swifts of hair loose in front of the ears.

If you’re looking for an even more formal look? Check out Holmes and Moore below.

These looks are very formal and stunning. Consider them for proms, weddings and other formal occasions. These two looks are both brushed-back styles, void of any loose strands. Holmes has side part, a high twist at the back and some elegant flowers finishing it. Moore’s look features a middle part with a plaited bun at the back.

Note too that you can always jazz up most styles by throwing in some loose curls and adding fun flowers, headbands, ribbons and sparkly clips.

Ladies, do you love having long hair but find you’re running out of creative ideas for styling it? Or do you rock a shorter haircut?

    1. My hair comes almost down to my behind, and I never do anything with it! I just brush it and go! But these styles are really fun, and some of them look pretty easy too! I really like the Emma Watson casual, and I’m thinking I’ll have to try it! Thanks so much for sharing this!

      • Even though I just got my hair cut short (to my shoulders), I have had long hair for years, and even though I loved my hair (and got a lot of comments on it), it was a pain to wash and dry, and yes, I found myself wearing my hair rather plainly most times, and my sister wasn’t much encouragement, saying you can’t do much with hair if it’s too long (but that was a long time ago). 😛
I plan on letting my hair grow out again, but getting a cut with layers and bangs (and of course trimming the bangs on occasion). I really like long hair, and I know that there are guys that love it too. 🙂

    2. Hence why I started my blog (itsthehairninja.com) there are so many awesome things you can do with long hair! I discovered a few hair gurus on YouTube and I’m amazed at how simple some of these styles can be

    3. I have long hair and can never find anything to do with it. I finally started curling it more and that helps a little but I want to do something different like not just curls but something else you know?

    4. I have hair that is a medium length, not that short but not that long. Its about an inch and a half lower than my collerbone. I’m always super busy and rushed in the morning so myt hair is usually just brushed and left down, maybe with a little bit pulled back in a bobbi pin or barret. And on rare occasions, when i have the time, i crimp or curl my hair.

    5. SOCK BUN!!! I only JUST learned about it but it seems really cool! Basically, you just roll your hair up into a sock and sleep on it and then when you wake up you take it out and you have wavy hair! If you want to know more you can youtube it or something. I haven’t tried it yet but a lot of people are talking about it.

    6. I have semi-long hair with straight-cut bangs. What I like doing is putting my hair up in sticks (like decorative chopsticks) and leaving a strand of my regular-length hair out of the “bun” on each side of my face. It’s really fun, easy, cute, and different from what you see where I live! 😀

    7. this is so cool, usually i just put my hair in a ponytail. it’s so simple, and i’m really buey. sometimes my mom styles my hair, but she puts it in a little girls hair do. i will DEFINITLY remember this!
