Reply To: IS THERE A SUCH THING AS A "RACE IDENTITY PROBLEM"???
Can I just cut to the chase? Things like “culture”, “skin color”, “food”, “language”, “music”—none of that is suppose to identify you as a “people” anymore. Jesus and God’s ways are. The body of believers are your new people. Do you talk, eat, sleep, live, sound like a believer in Christ? That’s what matters. Not Black, White, Ghetto, Rich, educated, or unlearned. What she should be worrying about: is that guy you’re with Christ-like, or have any interest in loving you the way Christ loved the church? (Ephesians 5:25-33). Does he want to follow God basically. That was the whole point concerning the commands in the bible which forbade the Israelites from marrying into foreign families and told them not to be like the “Gentiles” (it’s not a skin color thing, but an idolatry thing; their cultures worshiped other Gods and put other things on the pedestal that belonged to God). We are gentiles. We DO need to renounce the heathen culture we grew up in.
A warning to you: do not be led by your heart, but be led by God’s words. Now, I’m fully aware that I don’t know you, but based on what you’re saying and how you expressed it, this reminder is appropriate: the heart is deceitful beyond all things, our emotions and thoughts lead us in ways that may “feel” right, but are unholy and end in trouble. Not only do they reflect badly on God but lead you into trouble. Don’t be hooking up with people just for the “feels” / the skinship / physical contact, but because you want to establish a godly union between you and another, one that will last until death do you part.
Please take these scriptures to heart: Jeremiah 17:9; Proverbs 14:12; Isaiah 55:8-9; Matthew 4:4; Deuteronomy 8:3
