Girl to Girl Talk: How Do I Stop Feeling as Though God Has Rejected Me?

Project Inspired started a group specifically for the Girl Talk questions, which typically come from the Girl Talk chat wall on Facebook. Click here to safely join our chat group.

This week on the PI forum, an anonymous reader asked how can she stop feeling like she is a bad, sinful person. She tries to read the Bible but can’t, and feels her flesh is too strong to even finish listening to a Christian song. What can you do when you feel like you are not good enough or that God doesn’t love you?

First off, God loves the whole world and He sent His son Jesus 2,000 years ago to be born in a manger of a virgin birth (the real meaning of Christmas). Jesus is the Word of God, Yeshua (the Christ), who became flesh to dwell among us (John 1, John 3). Jesus (the Son of God) was sent to earth so that we would not be condemned in separation of God, but rather in fellowship to the Father through the Son, the awaited Messiah, Jesus Christ.

The feelings of not wanting to read the Word stem from the lies of the enemy and the spiritual battle of the spirit. (Read Ephesians 6 in the Bible about the full armor of God and spiritual warfare.) The enemy of our soul does NOT want us in fellowship with God reading His Holy Word. Satan (Lucifer, the fallen head worship angel, now called the devil) wants to turn you from the Lord because he was cast out from his pride of wanting to be God and to control Heaven.

Sin is birthed out of lies and deception. Satan (the prince of this earth) is the prince of the power of the air and wants to trick God’s people into thinking the Bible (God’s inerrant Word) is a lie. Satan wants to wage war on God and His people because He lost the battle in eternity and is angry that God cast him out. The enemy fell with one-third of the fallen angels (now known as demons and evil spirits). This battle is real and is unseen, but you can witness the evil this world has.

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. (Ephesians 2:2)

We must not be ignorant of the enemy’s devices. In a book called The Screwtape Letters, by famous author C. S. Lewis, he warns us that the enemy of our soul and salvation wants us to think that spiritual warfare isn’t real, or is a joke. The devil, Lucifer, wants us to believe the lie that God is not real and this invisible war for our relationship with God is a lie. We know that Jesus overcame the enemy by the bloodshed on Calvary, defeating sin and death. It was finished when Christ gave His soul to the Lord, and when He rose again, proving He was the Son of the living God.

Don’t let the enemy, your flesh, the lust of your eyes, pride or this temporal world sway you from your first love, Yeshua (Jesus Christ). Don’t let the enemy rob you because that is exactly what he wants to do—rob, kill, steal and destroy (John 10).

God (our Abba Father in heaven) came to give us life abundantly in fellowship through Jesus His Son to redeem what the sneaky snake Satan did in the garden 2,000 years ago. He deceived Adam and Eve, but God redeemed it all in the Garden of Gethsemane, where he sweated blood because He knew His assignment was to pour himself out as a lamb (the final sacrificial offering) once and for all of humanity.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth knew that He would shed his blood, which represents life, for the sins of the world so we could have eternal life. God knew that Jesus would leave the Holy Spirit once Christ ascended back into heaven after the transfiguration and resurrection. We now have the Holy Spirit after we receive the free gift of salvation.

What it sounds like to me about this anonymous PI Girl is that she needs to rededicate her life to Jesus as LORD. It doesn’t sound like she is surrendering her life to the King of Kings. Either He is Lord or you are Lord. We must not serve two masters (the world, flesh, sin, people)—we must have God our Father as our King through Christ and the Spirit).

Renew Your Salvation and Relationship With God

Ask Jesus to come into your heart and life, to renew your spirit and mind to be able to receive the Holy Spirit, and to renew your dedication to Christ. Ask for forgiveness of any past sins. Tell God you WANT to walk with Him, to soften your heart and be able to read His Word, and ask Him to open your eyes and ears. Ask God for more of the spirit and to walk in His spirit, not your flesh in Jesus’ name.

PI Girls, the more we harden our heart against the spirit of God, the harder it is to hear His voice. We must let Jesus into our hearts when we hear the knock on the door of our hearts, commune with Christ and the Lord God our Father in spirit and in truth. We need to open the door to our heart, not lock it so He can’t come in. When we harden our heart, we open ourselves to sin, selfishness, anger, bitterness and other fleshly desires.

As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:15)

I am praying for you. I hope you can realize why Christ came to earth and that there is no condemnation for your sin. Let the Holy Spirit come in; He will convict and guide you into all truth. Receive the love, grace and freedom in God. The Father wants a relationship with you. He loves you so much.
