Girl to Girl Talk: How to Battle Fear and Doubt with Faith

Every week, I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and council. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions.

This week, a PI reader asked, “Is God even there?” (Read the entire question here!) Girls, this week, let’s discuss faith, fear and doubt. I hope this encourages you!

Do you ever feel scared of the future, uncertain or doubtful of what God’s Word says? Do you feel like the waves in life are getting too high and that fear is overtaking you? I want to remind you the power of faith and how it moves mountains.

God spoke about faith so much in the Bible and how it is impossible to please Him without it. We cannot claim what we believe without hoping and believing in the uncertain. We know God is real. He always comes through, but sometimes He works in mysterious ways or in ways we don’t expect.

Let’s see what the Bible says about doubt and fear.

But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt because he who doubts is like the waves of the sea blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6).

For God did not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

We know that sometimes it may feel like we are holding on for dear life by faith, but remember that God is on your side. He loves you, He knows how you are feeling and what season you are in. Remember, He fights for you! (Exodus 14:14.)  God said, “All things are possible…,” but there is a pre-condition, “…for those who BELIEVE.”

What do you mean, ‘If I can’?’ Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes’ (Mark 9:23).

Your faith is like a shield. Faith is our protection from the fiery darts, the lies of the enemy and the fear of the world. We may see a spiritual battle warring against us or our faith may be tested but remember, THE VICTORY IS ALREADY WON! Amen!

You may be going through a hard season, but take heart and remember God is FAITH-FUL. When you have FAITH, He is FAITH-FUL. God is so good! Let us always rejoice and thank Him in the good, the bad and the plentiful or dry seasons.

Try these six steps to help you overcome your fear and doubt:

1.  Cast down any thought that does not align itself or represent the truth. Stand on the Word of God!

2.  Walk in faith and BELIEVE. Walk by FAITH, not by sight.

    • Remember, God is always working behind the scenes. He does not operate in time but in the eternal, and He never sleeps. Trust He is at work!

3.  Ask God to help your unbelief. Ask, seek, knock.

4.  Remember, the battle is already won! Stay positive.

5.  Look to Jesus. Peter sank when he doubted Jesus was on the water, but when he believed, he was victorious. Fix your eyes on the Savior.

6.  Listen to worship or uplifting music; music changes your attitude.

I pray this encourages you and gives you hope, PI readers!

I used to think having faith was so easy, but now it seems nearly impossible. Part of me knows God is real and all that, but the other part wonders how I can choose to 100% commit to something without evidence. I don’t want to just ignore my doubts but at the same time I don’t know how to face them and get past them. Any help?

      @Leya13
I use to have thoughts like that, and admittedly I still do sometimes. Know that God already knew before ahead of time you were even going to have those thoughts..I’d pray about it, and ask God to help you with your doubts because He always wants to help you. Read Proverbs 5:6-7 when you can and I hope this helps. Don’t feel that God is upset with you..He loves you so much and has a plan for your life!!

I just found myself in this situation, and God is always true to his word. He will never change, and always wants to help us. Think of Job, the devil took everything from Him..and he still praised God for who he was and blessed Him. Take heart girls! God will do amazing things and bless you!

It’s funny when God has a way knowing how I feel. I’ve been having doubting about faith and thought about leaving the faith. But I also realize that if I turn back, I can’t ignore the fact that God still exist and not have so many questions. I now realize that I’m living in two-different mindset. My mind is a skeptic and my heart believe and trust in Him. I ask God let me love and trust in with him and not in my mind. This morning he answer me with this: Apostle James once said, that person who doubts the reality of God and His truth is “Like a wave of the sea driven tossed by the wind…He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways,”. That was me. I’m so caught up on what goes around me and wonder when God was going to make his move that I had probably missed it by now. Now I trust God with and everything will fall into place. I don’t know he’s going to do it, all I know it’s going to be worth it in the end. Take it from me. No one knows it better than God.The End

No Promblem. Its a struggle everyday. Remind yourself of who He is and what the world would be like without him.

“By Faith” is a great song about walking by faith. It says, “We will stand as children of the promise, we will fix our eyes on Him our souls reward, till the race is finished and the work is done. We walk by faith and not by sight.” Hebrews 11 talks about the victories of the people who walked by faith. God has been gracious to show me that when I follow Him and keep my eyes focused completely on Him, He will be my strength to get me through!

This is exactly what i needed today. Im just going through a lot of stress right now and sometimes i wonder if God is even there. And this helped to remind me that even though it may seem like he’s not there that he is working everything out. I just gotta trust in Him. Thanks so much! This really encouraged me 🙂
