Every week, I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and counsel. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions.
Recently, a PI Girl asked about modest YouTube channels and wanted to start her own channel to inspire others. She loves fashion and beauty, but also loves Jesus! She said she wanted to see more modesty channels. Click here to read the full post.
This question made me think of what modesty means and why modesty, authenticity and identity are important. As believers in Christ, life is not about being perfect or too conservative or about being religious. Rather, our life is about following the example of Jesus and representing him well. When you dress, speak or behave, modesty simply is reflecting your values to the world around you and being the best example you can be. Modesty isn’t a rule, but rather, it is a reflection of your heart.
I remember interviewing rapper Andy Mineo about modesty and he said, “Immodesty is always a heart issue…it’s not an external thing…that’s what most of the issues with sin [are]. It’s not ‘stop doing this externally,’ it’s let God deal with your heart with what the core issue is….” Click here to watch the interview with Andy Mineo.
Most of the immodesty issues we see on television and other media are to sell something, or to draw in people for profit or to gain something. The world around us is so desensitized and wants us to conform to their patterns, thoughts and actions, but the Bible teaches the opposite. Romans 12 tells us to not copy the behaviors of the world, but to renew our minds with God’s Word, and in my view, listening to worship helps fix our eyes on the Lord as well.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God… (John 1:12)
We need to start standing up, being UNIQUE and who God called us to be! He made each of us differently…you are FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE! (Psalm 139) God made you in His image (Genesis 1:27) for His glory and eternal purposes here on earth. Do you copy the actions of others or are you different and a leader? Do you think modest is hottest? Do you live out modesty and do you embrace the unique gifts and talents God has entrusted you with? It is not easy swimming against the current of popularity or peer pressure, but there are many strong warriors rising up, paving the way for our generation!
I pray this article inspires you, and that you will join Group 1 Crew’s lead female vocalist, Blanca (who is now a solo artist), in her new campaign on social media!
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

All of my friends had long straight hair and I would feel like the oddball out… But as I got older I realized that my hair made me unique and different! That it was the Real, True me. When I learned to embrace it, I felt a whole new sense of confidence from within.
