Girl to Girl Talk: “I’m Afraid of College…Any Advice?”

Every week, I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and counsel. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions. Contact me @ChristiGiven.

This week, a PI Girl said that she is a little nervous about going to college, and is anxious and afraid of failing and needs some advice.

Read the full post here from our Girl Talk forum.

It’s normal to be nervous before transferring to a college or university and there are always going to be questions or even nervousness. When anyone goes to a new school or has to meet new people, having a little bit of anxiety is what everyone experiences. Hopefully you will be excited as well as possibly nervous.

I want to give you PI Girls some Bible verses about fear, anxiety and trusting God.

    In Philippians 4:6-7, it says:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The Word of God also says we need to not fear. In the Bible, more than 365 times it says do not fear:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

One of my favorite Bible verses is about how God provides for even the birds, and He reminds us we are more valuable to him than the animals and we do not need to worry! If God feeds animals, why should we worry as God’s beloved children?

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:25-27)

Of course we worry about things like “Will I like my roommate?” “Will I have enough money for books?” “Will I make new friends?” “Will the teachers like me?” “Will I succeed?” These are just some examples of thoughts and worries that go through our minds, but you see, PI Girls, we rob ourselves from the joy of our college experience by letting the enemy steal our peace and trust in God. We must trust the Lord, and when we obey His word and honor Him, it is a promise we will be in God’s will and will be successful in HIS eyes! Amen?

If you are still having fears or doubts, read these Bible verses again:

    1. Philippians 4:6-7
    2. 2 Timothy 1:7
    3. Joshua 1:9
    4. Proverbs 3:5-6
    5. Matthew 6:25-27

Jesus loves you, girls! You are royal daughters of the King! Don’t compare, worry, doubt or fear! God has you! He has your future! (Jeremiah 29:11)

PI Girls, if you have more doubts or questions, and/or need advice or prayer, feel free to reach out to me at facebook.com/christigiven.
