Grammy Awards 2016 Recap: Tori Kelly and Lauren Daigle’s First Nominations and More!

This year at the Grammys there were many Christian artists present. One of the artists who was present at the biggest night of music was Tori Kelly (“Unbreakable Smile”), a positive role model in the secular-music pop genre who is unashamed of her faith. She performed with James Bay at the Grammys and was also nominated for the first time, which is super exciting and inspiring, considering she started her music career as a teenager on YouTube. Although Kelly was nominated for Best New Artist, the award went to Meghan Trainor. Both are great and talented artists, and we are happy for the “All About That Bass” singer as well.

Next, we have country music artist Carrie Underwood, who has been a light since she released her single “Jesus Take the Wheel” and appeared on American Idol. Underwood still shines brightly for the Lord, and this year performed with new country artist Sam Hunt. Underwood was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance, but the award went to Chris Stapleton for “Traveller.” She showed off her new necklace from her husband and really glowed in her recent interview, as she is a new mother and is still as fashionable as always!

The Best Gospel Performance/Song award went to Kirk Franklin, well-known gospel artist.

One of my favorite Christian artists, Lauren Daigle (“How Can It Be” and “First”), was nominated in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category, but the award went to TobyMac, a pioneer in the pop Christian music genre.

In the category of Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song was Francesca Battistelli with “Holy Spirit,” written by Bryan and Katie Torwalt and sung by one of my faves, Kari Jobe.

Overall the outpouring of awards did go to most secular genres and categories, but it looks like Christian music is still relevant and on the rise with even higher-quality music.

…I wish Lauren would’ve won, she’s quite new and it would’ve been so exciting for her!
