Hailey Bieber on Modeling: “I’m Here to Represent Jesus”

Hailey Bieber, supermodel and wife to Justin Bieber, shared in a recent interview on Hillsong’s NOW with Natalie that modeling is so much more for her than just a job – it’s truly a ministry.

“I think that the bigger purpose behind it is for me to be a light in this place,” she said, “and I’m here to represent Jesus through me for other people — for His will to be done.”

As we can imagine, this amazing mission is nevertheless a very hard one to live out in an industry that is known for not always being all that Jesus-friendly.  Hailey went on to share,

“I obviously believe in modesty but a big part of my job is body and face and vanity and that is the whole premise of what I do, so it’s actually really difficult to try to be like, ‘this is what I do for my job but on Sunday I’m in church and that’s a real thing for me and that’s a real lifestyle for me and Jesus is a real thing for me,’ without it looking like I’m compromising everything.”

And lest we begin to think that supermodels never battle the comparison trap as the rest of us do, she also stated in that same interview that she thinks “the biggest thing I’ve struggled with is I compare myself to people a lot.”

How does she battle the raging feelings of comparison?

She said when she questions if “she’s enough,” her answer always is: “You’re enough because God created you.”

What lies about yourself and your beauty have you been believing? Are you taking captive the thoughts of comparison and competition that you sometimes struggle with? How will you purpose to meditate throughout your day on the reality of who you are in Christ and what that means for your purpose, worth, and identity? How can you represent Jesus? Take the truths Hailey shared and allow them to color how you view yourself and the impact you could have today on the watching world around you!
