Here’s Why You Should Be Careful About Horoscopes!

Some people may think reading horoscopes is harmless or silly. For those of you who don’t know, astrology claims to predict aspects of your life based on sign names according to when you were born: Virgo, Leo, Scorpio, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Sagittarius, Libra, etc.

Horoscopes are based on the time of year you were born and claim to foresee what will happen in the future, or lend “advice” about your life. Astrology is based on the sun and the moon and their interactions with you.

But when it comes to the Bible, the Lord warns us against falling prey to mediums, spiritists, sorcerers and any form of witchcraft.

“When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.” -Deuteronomy 18:9

We also see in Leviticus 19:31:”Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”

We know that horoscopes are related to psychics and mediums. Even on daily horoscope websites they have advertisements to speak to a psychic live! Many newspapers and magazines, including teen and fashion magazines also have horoscope pages.

The predictions found in horoscopes and astrology in general can seem confusing. Girls, if you have a question, are unsure, or don’t feel comfortable reading something — even if it’s a slight feeling in your gut–listen to the Holy Spirit. He will direct you and steer you.

PI girls, if you ever hesitate or are unsure if you should read something, just ask yourself: Is it helping me in my walk with God or hurting me? Is it furthering me to be the godly woman I desire to become, or is it putting false or faulty ideas in my head?

Pray for discernment and if you still aren’t sure, ask a youth leader, a parent, guardian or role model.  If you are curious about your future, ask God to give you clarity and vision. God already says he knows he has good things planned for you and wants to give you a great life, just ask for HIS guidance!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Mine is almost always about getting a raise in money or something and it’s never happened lol but I think they’re harmless because I know they’re not real because mine have never come true.

What about fairies in stories? I mean, I know they’re not supposed to be human, but, still, I have to ask.

This question bothered me for some time. I read them once before and sometimes they were accurate. My best friend and I read them and laughed until they rang true and we were creeped. The question arouse: Is this a part of God’s perfection in creating the universe? Can horoscopes really be true? After praying I realized they could not even possibly be. They only stray you further from God and cause you to question your life. I really believe it skews your brain. I avoid reading them now.

I read horoscopes, just for fun though. I don’t actually believe anything they put in those things. And I agree with you Nicole. A couple weeks ago some of my friends went to an oujja board party and I found myself thinking that I was blessed not to have been invited to that party 🙂

I read mine (I’m a Scorpio), but I don’t take them too seriously. It’s just fun and games.

I read mine just for fun, but I don’t really believe what they say…

At first I thought that they were harmless. But after attending a worship group, I realized that they are not something that a Christian should read. I deleted all of my horoscope apps off my phone.

    Great article!

  9. Posted by on October 23, 2011 at 15:12

I think most of them are probably silly, and don’t even make sense anyway. But I don’t agree with the idea of seriously believing in them and taking them into account. Also, the thing with these little horoscopes, is you read them, then if ANYTHING happens that matches something they said at all, you’re like “OMG IT CAME TRUE,” when a ton of other things happened that day as well, and you wouldn’t have noticed that one thing if it wasn’t “predicted.”

Basically, in short, just like…drop them. xD

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with horoscopes, they’re fun! and i don’t take them super seriously.

Horoscopes are just stupid things people came up with to try to get money, and “the love of money is the root of all evil”, so this article has a very logical argument

    • Posted by on October 26, 2011 at 16:41

which is exactly how Satan wants you to think.

  11. Posted by on October 22, 2011 at 16:46

horoscopes are soooo false. they dont know your future. only God does.

  12. Posted by on October 22, 2011 at 16:02

i don’t. i think they are really dumb. some say you will be shy and meek. then the person is loud and proud. just goes to show you they don’t work

So does that mean no scary movies/ fantasy movies?
There’s that whole debate about Harry potter.
And what about Halloween? I assume you approve because you had an article for costumes.

    • Posted by on October 27, 2011 at 16:41

Scary/fantasy movies, especially Harry Potter are not bad in general. Just don’t let them get to your head cuz their not real. Harry Potter is actually a very good book to read because the main messages are not about magic and sorcery; there about friendship, courage, doing the right thing even among evil, and unconditional love (that’s the only way how harry survived as a baby; his mothers sacrifice). As for Halloween, I recently found out that it was actually made to mock the devil; it is before all saints day so its saying “haha satan you lost”. Good questions!

My brother once told me that reading horoscopes allows demons to work in your life. I told my class that one day when they were reading horoscopes and they dropped the magazine. Not even a minute passed and they had the magazine again reading through the horoscopes. I was a little irritated. I had told them that what they were reading was bad for them and yet they continued to read it! I just shook my head in disbelief. But we do the same thing with God. He’s told us that we shouldn’t do certain things and yet we plow ahead not listening and then we realize, too late, “Whoops, I guess I should’ve listened…Sorry.”

    • Posted by on October 26, 2011 at 16:41

youw ere brave and good to do that though! I dont know how old you are, but no matter my age, had *I* tried that (and I’m sure i’d have been too scared too, being as quiet and nonconfrontational with strangers as I am) that the whole class would’ve laughed in my face, then proceeded to attack me for saying such an “intolerant religious zealot” thing.

  15. Posted by on October 22, 2011 at 10:22

I read my horoscope one time about 2 years ago. I didn’t really care about it even though it was saying good things just thought it was too “silly” to read. I mean seriously how is a horoscope going to tell you that when you reach that age, you will become successful would if you don’t. I’m gonna stick to the Bible which speaks nothing but the truth.

  16. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 18:22

Ok, so I get that it’s bad, but what about tv shows with wizards and magic? Is it wrong even in a “pretend” way?

    • Posted by on October 26, 2011 at 16:39

yes, they do their best to paint witchcraft as a cute, lighthearted game like in Waverly Place, Harry Potter, even Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost (they actually had 3 Wiccan characters… in retrospect, it is so creepy how casually the makers deal with paganism!)

  17. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 17:02

I’ve never read a horoscope, but now I know that I shouldn’t read them. Why would you ask a HUMAN your future when God already has all our days written in his book?

    (Psalm 139:16)
your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

  18. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 16:36

They’re not harmful. Usually they have some pretty good and inspiring advice… Unless they’re telling you what to do then just bleh.

  19. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 16:06

I read horoscopes a few times. And I laughed at how silly they were. What about an exorcist that drives out demons? Are they bad? Like what if it’s really necessary?

  20. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 14:52

I have a question, my besties and I are talking about going to a “haunted house” by my cousins house. It’s supposed to be really haunted, is it wrong of us to do this? I looked it up and the bible says spirits are demons and Angels, so is it ok to go see it for a scary thing; we didn’t want to actually celebrate Halloween. I was just wondering, this’ll probably affect if I go but I don’t know about them. 🙂 Thanks in advance!

Or not, I relize y’all are all soo busy and I am soo thankful for all you do; even if I didn’t get an answer. My question was silly. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING Nicole, and all the ones that help out!!!

  21. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 14:24

I have a teen girl study Bible, and it says the same thing about how horoscopes are just misleading, and that if you really want to know about your future then you shouldn’t have to resort to using horoscopes. Just read the Bible, and all of your questions will be answered!

I also kinda think horoscopes are a way for Satan to get into your head. And like my youth pastor said: once Satan gets a toe-hold in your life, he’ll be able to get a foothold, and soon he’ll get a stronghold on your life. I say don’t give him that chance!

  22. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 13:33

They’re so funny because they are not true at all! My mom read hers and it told her that she would find the love of her life in a month and to leave the guy she’s with now… my dad laughed pretty hard at that! But don’t listen to them, they are lying and have nothing to do with God, which is what we Christians want to stay away from!

  23. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 07:19

I never read them anyway. I dont believe in all that ridiculous crap.

  24. Posted by on October 21, 2011 at 06:56

I do them just for fun…just to see what it says. I know some of the stuff doesn’t happen…I mean, I never get asked out by boys and I think thats a GREAT thing…and I’m glad this is another great reminder about how YOUR FATE RESTS WITH GOD!! 😀
