How Do I Stay Patient While Waiting on God?

Project Inspired started a group specifically for the Girl Talk questions, which typically come from the Girl Talk chat wall on Facebook. Click here to safely join our chat group.

This week, a PI Girl asked how can she remain patient while waiting on God for a breakthrough and for His promises. In life, it can be so hard to wait and we can feel like we’re going to break or not make it. The Bible tells us the opposite: that when we wait, we actually renew our strength (Isaiah 40). We combat doubt and fear by being thankful and by staying full of faith. We must combat fear with faith. We know Satan is the Father of lies and wants us to doubt what God promises us. We must starve our doubts and feed our faith with the Word of God.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

We become stronger in the waiting because we are building endurance through patience and long suffering. Christ understands our weak areas and where we need to be stretched. Where God tests us, He grows us, and yes, it can be painful. Sometimes God prunes us (John 15); sometimes He cuts off branches that are not producing good fruit in our lives. God wants the best, healthiest life for us.

Not only so, but we also glory in our suffering, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope… (Romans 5:3-4)

Trust that God is your Heavenly Father and has good plans for you. Even when we wait on the promise like the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11, we see that many significant believers in the Word had to wait and to trust in God for their promise. God is faithful. Always remember that His ways are higher and His thoughts are greater (Isaiah 55), and that His plan is always better than you can imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

How we remain patient in the waiting time is by trusting God, by walking in the spirit and also by knowing that God’s promises are yes and amen in Christ. God is a covenant-keeping God and He keeps His promises. If we remain in Christ and don’t lose hope, then we will get the harvest and will obtain the promises of the Lord.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

The key in the waiting is to not lose your faith by being fearful. Stand on the Word that God told you and keep pressing on through prayer. Don’t lose heart and hope because you will only gain the fruit and harvest IF you don’t give up or grow weary. God wants to bless you and He is so pleased with you when you walk by faith and not by sight. Stay encouraged, and whatever it is you are believing for, know that God has the best in store for you and loves you as a father loves his child.

God will make us wait sometimes. Did you know there is 400 years of silence between Malachi and Matthew? (Or at least, 400 years between the old and New Testament when set up chronologically). Gods people did stray, they did long to hear his voice. He was silent, but he was there. They strayed, he stayed. The seasons of silence are always hard to get through but they are for a reason. Trust. That’s all it ever boils down to. Trust that he loves you like he says he does, and the waiting will be worth it.
