    How Driven Women Honor God

There is a lot of debate over the role of “strong women” in the church of God. I wish that weren’t the case. But as people have reacted to the secular feminist narratives that celebrate rebellion and anger as a sign of strength, the church has swung to the other end of the spectrum. To be godly, we’re told, is to be quiet and small.

For women with strong personalities, this creates great confusion. How do we honor God with our ambition if godliness is only for the reserved?

The wonderful news is that Scripture allows for strong women. In fact, God used strong women throughout His redemption story! Sarah, Hagar, Hannah, Ruth, Naomi, Mary, Elizabeth—these and so many more women served God with incredible resolve. They were driven by their devotion to the Lord and worked out their faith in daily life.

If you’re a driven woman, here’s some encouragement for you.

Driven women have a strong sense of purpose

Women of strength know where they’re from and where they’re headed. This sense of purpose drives everything they do. For Christian women, their drive and ambition should be rooted in God’s will for their lives. His intentions guide our decisions.

When drive is mishandled, people become self-focused. Their ambition is used only to further their personal goals and dreams, and they forget about the ultimate, eternal purpose. It is vital to stay connected to the Lord through His Word and prayer, but when you do, you’ll find your ambition balanced by grace—both for yourself and others.

    Driven women take action

Driven women are quick to put feet to their faith. They don’t wait to serve God in a later time; they start right here! This ability to make the most of present circumstances requires boldness and courage. Though some may deride ambitious women—believing their drive is “unfeminine”—ambition submitted to God brings Him glory.

We do not have God’s help to do things He did not call us to do. But when we walk according to His Spirit’s leading, we have all the power of God on our side. When our ambitions align with His, our actions guarantee His glory.

    Driven women set God-defined goals

Strong women don’t set goals simply for self-gratification, though it IS gratifying to achieve goals. Strong, godly women set goals defined by the Lord. They start with His Word: What does He want for me, my life and my work? This translates into how we live our days.

Having drive and motivation enables us to accomplish great things for the Lord in the most mundane moments. Goals are accomplished not in big leaps, but in small steps. As we diligently seek the Lord and ask for His direction, we set goals that honor His vision for our lives.

Driven women are not outside the bounds of Scripture. God uses them every day. But we must remember that ambition is only God-honoring when our ambitions START with Him. Set your goals, dream big dreams—and keep Christ central to your mission. This is the way to honor God with your drive.
