How the “I Am Second” Movement Helps People Live for God!

I recently discovered an online ministry called “I am Second.” The ministry helps people live for God and put themselves second to Him. It features famous actors, actresses, singers, leaders, pastors, athletes, authors and people with stories, and is a platform to get the message out. It also includes individual testimonial videos featuring some familiar faces in the media and in ministry.

The site describes its focus and purpose as:

I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Drug addicts. Your next-door neighbor. People like you. The authentic stories on iamsecond.com provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. These are stories that give hope to the lonely and the hurting, help from destructive lifestyles, and inspiration to the unfulfilled. You’ll discover people who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed. Find the hope, peace, and fulfillment they found. Be Second.

Here is a video of an “I am Second” story featuring professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. You may remember the film and book based on her life called Soul Surfer:

The “I am Second” website has a “Struggles” section where people can ask questions about certain issues and watch films with testimonials on topics such as “Forgiveness,” “Self-esteem,” “Abortion,” “Child Abuse,” “Success,” “Anger,” “Pride” and many more.

“I am Second” also has groups where people can connect. If a person wants to grow, talk and share with their friends, they can join a group. It is essentially a Bible study group for learning more about the faith and discussing “I am Second” videos. PI readers, make sure you discuss it with your parents before joining a group if you are under the age of 18.

Here is Lecrae’s “I am Second” video and testimonial:

The “I am Second” videos are definitely a unique way to share the hope of Jesus, to further the Kingdom, to inspire people and to share different stories and testimonies.

PI readers, would you share an “I am Second” video with a friend? If you watched a few of the videos, which one really impacted or spoke into your life?

    1. I saw that website a while ago. I still look at it and I love Bethany’s story. I’m glad you posted this because it can really inspire someone with these struggles who are hiding them.

    2. Yeah on the webpage I’ve only heard of two people listed under films – Stephen Baldwin and Mike Huckabee. Then Bethany Hamilton. So not really a lot of “Famous” people. Kind of the lot you would see on the B list – or D list.

      • Are you saying that from a Christian perspective or a secular one? I haven’t checked out the site yet, but from the examples she posted and from what I’ve read, there are probably a lot more people “famous” in the Christian industry than the secular one

    3. Thanks for sharing this! I have a friend who has been going through a REALLY hard time. He used to take drugs but recently stopped because he met God and God gave him strength to stop. He’s still trying to get back on his feet though and he doesn’t know God that well yet.

    4. I loved Bethany’s testimony. I seriously got chills when I watched it. And Lecrae’s is one of my favorite and I watched it at a youth group event once. But I think my ultimate favorite testimony that I’ve seen is a guy named Brian Welch.

Brian used to be apart of a heavy rock band called “Korn.” He said there was this high you get when people are basically screaming you on, cheering for you. But then he still wanted that high, so he turned to Meth. He had a daughter and said wasn’t raising her right, letting nannies taking care of her and raise her. He ultimately looked towards drugs to and could never find happiness. But a friend told him about God, and Brian begged Jesus to take the drugs out of his life. He decided to quit Korn and raise his daughter the way he should, because the daughter’s mom was already lost to drugs. Although he does look scary in the video, his story is amazing and always inspires me.
