How to: Convince your parents you’re ready for a cell phone

Think you’re ready for you own cell phone? Put it in writing. According to this article it can be the smartest way to show your parents (who may think the idea is crazy) that you really do know what you’re talking about.

There are already SOOO many rules in your life that you’re forced to follow (some of them are frankly kind of dumb), I know! But, making up your own rules can be just the way to get what you want! Here’s how:

Draw up a contract between you and your parents on what the rules will be for using the cell phone. Here’s an example contract:

Your parents may want more restrictive rules than what you want, but think of it this way: you can always add a clause about revisiting and updating the contract after a certain amount of time to allow for more privileges when you’ve shown that you’re able to handle the responsibility.

So go ahead! Take matters into your own hands. Start negotiating and put it in writing. These are skills you’ll seriously use FOREVER.
