So you started out the day thinking it was going to be chill…and suddenly something happens where you need to look dressier than planned. Perhaps it’s a last-minute date or a class presentation, or maybe you just love a certain outfit and want to give it some pizzazz. These quick tips will breathe new life into your current clothes!
Jewelry – This is the most obvious place to start when thinking of ways to glam up your look for the day. Try one or two (not more than two at a time!) statement pieces. Statement jewelry means just that—it says something! A large chunky necklace, a colorful thick bracelet, dangle earrings and cocktail rings can all put that fun touch on an otherwise plain ensemble. The great news about costume jewelry is that it’s actually incredibly affordable. Check out stores like Kohl’s, Target, Macy’s and Forever 21 to find cute pieces.
Scarf – A scarf adds the perfect pop of color whether or not you need to keep warm. Choose a pashmina, fringed or thin scarf for indoor occasions. Go for a warm, soft one to wear outdoors. Pick a scarf that complements your sweater or coat. Patterns and texture go really well with solids.

Heels – Obviously this one isn’t going to work if you’re going to be walking around or standing a lot. But if it’s just a normal day, a pair of wedges or low heels is just the thing to elongate your body and class up your look. Don’t think of just pumps—heeled boots, platforms and casual wedges are all in play here!

Cardigan – Throwing a dressy sweater over a tank top or a casual dress instantly makes your outfit look more mature and professional. Try to find ones that are a thinner material, as opposed to a sweater cardigan. They are much more cozy than a blouse, but can be just as nice.

Belt – Belts come in a huge variety. Thick, thin, metallic, leather…the possibilities are endless! Use a belt to cinch in a loose top, a wide belt to break up a solid-color dress or a dressy belt for a business look.
