How to Layer Outfits
Written by Julie Partin | February 5, 2015
Sometimes it’s warm during the day, then cold at night. Or perhaps it’s freezing outside, but toasty indoors. Whatever the case, you aren’t often able to wear the same outfit for the entire day. Here are some basic tips to help you layer your outfits and look cute in the process! Adding a pop of color or a texture can be done in one or two of the layers.
Basics: Start with a lightweight top and skinny jeans. A thin base layer will make adding on more clothing much easier and it won’t look bulky. Plus, if you end up hot, you can just remove some layers.
Sweater or vest: Next is your favorite comfy, chic and cozy warm top.
Accessories: Depending on how extreme the cold weather is where you live, accessories can be a game changer! Beanies, gloves, scarves, leg warmers, etc., are really going to make the difference in your look. Feel free to wear them all if you need to, but make sure the colors complement each other.
Jacket or coat: If you are really experiencing hard-core winter, it’s time to throw on that heavy coat! Since you may not have tons of coats, try to work your look around it as a base.
Shoes: To finish off your look, snag your favorite versatile boots or shoes. If you will be outside in the elements, you should avoid suede, since it can get ruined by water. If you plan on walking a lot, opt for flats.
