How to Nail the “No-Makeup” Makeup Look
Written by Cynthia Onyejiji | August 1, 2018
Summer is here, and with it is the blazing heat of the sun! If you’re like me, then the last thing you want to d0 is to go out wearing a ton of makeup. It’s a recipe for a makeup disaster, right?!
That’s when the “no-makeup” makeup look comes in handy! What is this look? Well, when done correctly, it allows you to appear barefaced and natural. What I love about this makeup look is that it’s so easy to create and it doesn’t require a ton of products.
If this all sounds like music to your ears, dive in to the picture tutorial I put together on how to nail the no-makeup makeup look!
1. Start With a Fresh Face
In order to get the best final results, you’ll want to start with a clean and smooth canvas—your face. Be sure to cleanse and moisturize your skin (don’t forget your SPF!). If you have a makeup primer, this would be the time to apply it. Primers help reduce the appearance of your pores and create a smooth surface for your makeup.
2. Time to Get Brow-Tastic
This step is completely optional. However, I find eyebrows to be the focal point of the face, and as such, I like to show them a little love. You don’t want to go overboard with this step since we’re going for a no-makeup makeup look. Easy does it! I usually trace my natural eyebrows at the bottom and at the top, and then fill in the center using gentle upward strokes.
3. Lay Down the Foundation
For this step, you’ll want to grab your favorite foundation and apply it to your face. I like to use a flat-top foundation brush to apply my foundation to avoid streaky application. One layer should do the trick! However, feel free to build your foundation up to your liking.
4. Apply Eye Shadow
When it comes to eye shadow, you should go with matte, neutral colors. Shimmery eye shadow is fine as well. However, if you’re trying to achieve a barefaced appearance, you’ll want to use shimmery eye shadows sparingly. The key to selecting eye shadows is to choose colors that are close to your skin complexion and aren’t very vibrant.
5. Don’t Forget the Lips
Grab your favorite nude lip color and start applying! I like to line my lips first with a lip liner that’s close to my complexion and then apply the lipstick. This step helps the lip color blend in better with your skin tone. If you’re really going after the no-makeup makeup look, you can skip this step completely and just opt for using a lip balm like ChapStick or a clear lip gloss!
6. Pose for the Camera
Now that your no-makeup makeup look is complete, there’s only ONE more step: Pose for the camera and snap away!
