How to Recommit to Jesus and Get Back Into Reading His Word

Project Inspired started a group specifically for the Girl Talk questions, which typically come from the Girl Talk chat wall on Facebook. Click here to safely join our chat group.

This week, a PI Girl asked on the Girl Talk forum about how you can “renew your desire for time in the Word.” Many times as believers we can get comfortable and can not really commit to prayer, worship and our devotionals. My challenge is for you to recommit, and refresh your relationship with Jesus by deciding to give Him your attention, first in the morning, in prayer, and then read a Bible verse or chapter a day.

One way to recommit and get excited again about your communion with Christ is to get a devotional book. One of my favorites is His Princess Bride (Love Letters From Your Prince) by Sheri Rose Shepherd. Just like in a romantic relationship, where people can get bored or too comfortable, you must keep the passion alive. The Bible is the oil (anointing) in which we keep our hearts burning for Him. I pray you can fall in love with Jesus again, and return to your first love.

If you want to take it a step further, get involved in a Bible study or community group. Another idea is to join a youth group or get an accountability partner where you can do a Bible study together, have homework and can review together what you are learning. You can sharpen one another and challenge each other with different viewpoints on the scriptures.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17)

I find that podcasts are always very interesting, informative and inspiring. YouTube has many different pastors online and you can watch different sermons or topics. Priscilla Shirer, Beth Moore and Christine Caine are some women’s pastors who are excellent in teaching and in ministering the Word of God.

Read this article for some podcasts I find interesting or beneficial in assisting with spiritual growth.

PI Girls, how do you reignite the fire of that love with the Lord? Comment below!
