How to Stand in Faith When You’re Disappointed

Sometimes in life, circumstances can take us by surprise and we can get disappointed. How do you react when people let you down? Do you stand on God’s Word and depend on Him even when people fail you? Our faith can be tested very strongly and we must remain strong and anchored in the Lord. It is inevitable that we will have storms in life, and we must stay standing on the Word of God. We know that man may fail us, but God will never fail us.

Disappointment can be defined as “sadness or displeasure caused by the non-fulfilment of one’s hopes or expectations.” I look at disappointment as a missed appointment, or missed expectation. In life, we face times of trial and refining. Hopefully we’ll always be challenged in our character and in our growth, but we know that it will all end up in producing better spiritual fruit if we remain in the vibe of the Lord and His Word (John 15:5).

We must not let the storms of life get us off course or distract us from the Lord Jesus. We must stay rooted in the truth of the living manna of the Word of life, which is the Bible. If we do not abide, we can easily become swayed by the enemy and his devices. We must keep our full armor on, no matter what situation we are facing.

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (1 Peter 1:7)

If so be that ye continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel which ye heard, which was preached in all creation under heaven; whereof I Paul was made a minister. (Colossians 1:23)

What are some situations or disappointments we may face in life? Maybe you have a friend who told your secret that you asked her to not share, or your confidence was betrayed, or your boyfriend broke up with you, or you didn’t do as well on an exam as you thought…the list goes on. Circumstances in life can be unpredictable at times, but we must not forget that God is with us and that He is faithful.
