“I Can Only Imagine” Film About the Lead Singer of MercyMe in Theaters Now

“I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe was a very popular Christian song and was written by Bart Millard. The song was released in 2001, after Millard’s dad passed on to heaven. There is now a film about the background story and theme behind the song, which was released in theaters on March 16, 2018. The film made over $17 million at the box office in the first weekend, according to sources, which was beyond what was expected.

The film was released through Lionsgate and was featured on only about 1,600 screens. The movie was directed by the Erwin brothers (Andrew and Jon) and was also released by Roadside Attractions. Some of their previous films were Woodlawn, October Baby and Moms’ Night Out. Dennis Quaid stars in the film alongside country singer Trace Adkins and women’s Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer. The song is about the father of MercyMe’s lead singer Bart, about his testimony, and is about forgiveness and redemption.

    1. I had never heard of this song until I saw the movie with my family. I loved the movie and the song! They are beautiful! I would definitely recommend the movie! But I will caution you, the movie is a little bit of a tear jerker at some parts!
