I’m Loving This: Sanctus Real’s Inspiring New Album, “Run”
Written by Christi Given | April 13, 2013
Sanctus Real released their sixth in-studio album, “Run,” in February. The band has had eight #1 hits and counting, yet they remain humble and bold with their expressions of faith. From the band’s official website:
[“Run”] is the follow-up to their 2010 GRAMMY- nominated ‘Pieces of a Real Heart,’ which featured their career-breaking hit ‘Lead Me’ (www.sanctusreal.com).
The album is available in stores, on iTunes and in the Sanctus Real store. Some of my favorite songs off of the new album are “Run”, “Promises,” “We Will Never Give Up,” “Nothing Between,” “You are God” and more.
“Nothing Between” was drawn from the band’s experience when their tour bus caught fire. “Better Than This” is upbeat, inspiring and a positive track about new starts and choices. “Picture of Grace” is a beautiful, insightful song with metaphorical lyrics: “Cause we believe in something bigger than our own lives; we’ll keep reaching for someone who’s stronger than you and I…”
Every song on the album is catchy and has a powerful melody and hook. I really love the sound of the lead singer Matt Hammitt’s voice.
One of my favorite songs on the album, “Promises,” is about God’s faithfulness, and it comes from a personal testimony about Hammitt’s son.
[“Promises”] is a simple yet stirring reminder of God’s faithfulness, Matt was inspired by the words a friend shared as he and his wife Sarah awaited the birth of their son, Bowen, who was diagnosed with a severe heart defect (www.sanctusreal.com).
Hammitt also explains some words of inspiration from a friend during that difficult time:
A friend of mine in Minneapolis who has a son who’s severely disabled works with a ministry for parents with kids with special needs. There are different struggles that come with that, so he was always sending me encouragement,’ Matt shares. ‘He would always tell me ‘cling to the promises,’ and that really resonated me because we had to dig deeper into the Word of God—and those promises—more than ever.’ Now a thriving two-year-old, Matt and Sarah continue to share Bowen’s remarkable story online at www.bowensheart.com.
They named their son Bowen, which means, “small, victorious one.” If you are struggling to believe God’s promises, read this scripture quoted on Bowen’s blog that helps them get through their trials.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

Listen to “Run.” I love the beautiful lyrics and the colors, graphics and fonts in the video. What do you think?
