Inner Beauty: How Gentleness is Strength Over Weakness

“Our culture teaches us to speak our mind, voice our opinion, post our Instagram  story and say what we think, and many people tend to think being loud is strength. Being loud verses being soft is not strength, but rather meekness, humility and gentleness is strength. ” Christi Given

In conflict, is your first instinct to be gentle, especially when you have been mistreated or wronged? Naturally, living in a fallen world, our human flesh wants to always be right, to retaliate, to fight back, to argue, to get angry, to yell and dominate, but what would Jesus do? As women, we really need to walk in the spirit of grace and gentleness. God calls the men to be gentle, and we as ladies also need to be godly and Christlike with good fruit representing the spirit. We should lay down our opinions, verses following the lust to be right or “just”, or to have the final word.

“Even a fool is considered wise if he keeps silent, and discerning when he holds his tongue.” (Proverbs 17:28)

The Bible tells us that there is actually great strength and wisdom in quietness, calmness, and gentleness. Christ didn’t explain himself to many people and he wasn’t loud or shouting his greatness. Even Christ going to the cross was a lamb being led to the slaughter. He could have boasted in his power but he glorified the Father and he stayed humbled even in washing the disciples feet.

“You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.” (1 Peter 3:4)

Self-control is also a fruit of the spirit and when we are gentle verses harsh, we honor God. Our life is our act of worship, and what we say speaks volumes about our heart condition. If we lash out in our flesh or emotions, we are indicating we do not have a reign on our spirit or we are not really genuine in what we are claiming to believe at times.

Do you doubt God’s goodness? Do you feel angry at your family or friends and do you wrestle with gentleness or turning the other cheek? We must remember Jesus instructs us to even love our enemies. The Bible says we cannot depend on man or human beings but only in Jesus Christ. When we place our heart or trust into a creature we will inevitably get disappointed. We’re called to be content in God and gentle to those around us, even despite the storm that is raging around us.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Do you seek to have the fruits of the Holy Spirit that are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? Ask God to help you to carry and to possess the fruits of the spirit and evaluate where you are operating in the works of the flesh.

“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 6:19-21)

I pray that we can be gentle, quiet and feminine women of God and faith. I ask that Jesus will make me blossom into a beautiful, kind, loving, and patient worshipper for His glory. I know life is not easy and sometimes we are emotional or are at our breaking points, but remember Jesus paid it all on Calvary and He didn’t deserve it — we did. If anyone could have been upset for the sin He did not commit, it could have been Jesus. Yet he obeyed until death. Jesus loves you so much that He died for you.

God wants you to walk in love and also the fruits of the spirit. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to dwell in and through you and strengthen your love and faith by reading His word. Jesus wants you to have hope and to know He has good will towards you, not harm, and he is not trying to make you upset or angry. Even when our buttons get pushed he wants to refine you to shine for him and to be more like his character which is good and benevolent.

PI LADIES, do you walk in the fruit of the spirit and in gentleness? Comment below and let us know how we can pray for you. God bless you.
