Inspiring Celebrity: Miranda Cosgrove

Miranda Cosgrove recently turned 18. Although she is the same age as Miley Cyrus and has a lot of acting experience, one thing she doesn’t seem to have is a lot of media coverage.

You may remember Miranda from School of Rock, where she costarred with Jack Black. She was also on Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh, portraying the role of their little sister, Megan. Currently, she is starring in her own Nickelodeon show, iCarly. Even though I’m 23, I actually watch (and enjoy!) this show. It’s very wholesome and funny but not in a suggestive way like some shows (Victorious for example featured Ke$ha in one of its episodes).

For her 18th birthday, Miranda celebrated her birthday at an event for St. Jude’s Research Hospital. There are a lot of young celebrities who participate in charity work but often the escapades of their personal lives (like excessive partying) draw more attention than their good deeds. For Miranda, her good deeds seem to be the only things that get reported, if anything at all.

I think she’s an exceptional role model for young girls. She’s beautiful and talented and she shows that you don’t have to flaunt yourself to be successful.

I reeaaaally like miranda and love watching icarly! The only problem i have with it is that they tak the Lord’s name in vain A LOT in the show!! besides that, i love her. I think it is a very funny show and nice and clean. I gotta agree with you on vistorious, it is so funny but probably not the best thing for younger girls to be watching. Like the way the character Cat (who i think is so cute and funny and is actually a really good singer and good person in real life) dresses, most of her outfits are very short and expose her boobs to much. And there is a lot of adult humor in vistorious (and sometimes in icarly, but not nearly as bad).

    She’s pretty too!

Her song “High Maintenance,” is just in general not a very inspiring song…she swears, brags, etc. Besides that song, I do actually like her.

Yeah, kind of what Olivia said…she uses God’s name in vain a lot on her show, but that’s pretty much the only reason I wouldn’t consider her the best role model.

Miranda definitely comes off as a sweetheart. I wish we could see more of her in the media, I wish I had heard about what she did on her birthday instead of the other uninteresting pop culture news. And her show is really cute, I may be older, but even I have to appreciate it. 🙂

I love watching iCarly, and she was or is on her Dancin Crazy Tour with Greyson Chance. She is a really good role model, and she’s an amazing person/actress/singer.

Olivia, I was not aware that she used profanity in one of her songs! That is terrible :/ Thank you for pointing that out!

I do like her, but I hate how she swears in her one song, “High Maintenance.” I know it’s only once, but still! That’s not honoring God!

I love her(I watch Icarly myself) because she is just so..clean. I noticed that Nick seems to produce less “hollywood” stars. Disney just seemes to create problems. Like think about it…how many stars went viral with disney and how many went viral with nick??????
