Is i-Shine Programming the Christian Alternative to Disney?

Every week I go through the “Girl Talk” section of Project Inspired and look for those seeking advice and council. I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions, and ask for advice on many topics as well. If you would like to ask questions about your walk with God or get some advice, join the conversation here!

This week I noticed a post in the Middle School Girls Girl Talk forum asking for advice on dealing with boys (check out the post and click to join the conversation). This got me to thinking about middle school in general, and the influences you are surrounded by when you’re at that stage in your life! One positive influence I’ve found? i-Shine.

The i-Shine programming is a program for tweens from middle school to young adults who love pop, Disney-type television and more. It is played on JCTV and the TBN network, among others. The shows discuss faith, love, peer pressure, bullying and more.

Many of us have been highly influenced by the Disney channel and television, movies and music in general.  As we grow up, the music we listen to, the friends we are around and the things we fix our minds on shapes who we become. The question is: What are young adults watching, and what are tweens in this generation being influenced by?

The wonderful ministry and TV programs of i-Shine are directed at ages pre-teen to young adult, and it is very similar to Disney programming. The main difference is that i-Shine offers a positive, inspiring, godly message through their shows and programming.

Some of the artists  who are a part of i-Shine are The Rubyz, are a duo music group, Mission Six, comprising several boys, and even Jamie Grace!

According to the official website, i-Shine

“Seeks to be a positive influence to this generation;pointing them to the truth of God as found in the Holy Scriptures and towards the sacred Heritage of Faith and Family.”

    1. iShine is not a high-quality Christian TV show. In fact, I’ve found that the Disney Channel artists sound much more talented and mature than the iShine artists, and even the Disney shows are more well-written. I’ve seen some episodes, and this is not worth the time of any Christian who values quality as well as morals.
