Why You Should Care That J. Lo and Marc Anthony’s Marriage is a Wrap

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are divorcing. Should we be surprised? Saddened, maybe, but surprised? Unfortunately, no! It’s the Hollywood way. Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, Sandra Bullock and Jesse James, Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz, Madonna and Guy Ritchie…

These are just a few examples of ‘big name’ divorces, but the list goes on and on.

This will be Lopez’ third divorce and Anthony’s second. With statistics stating that approximately 50% of first marriages end in divorce, I wonder if Hollywood stars alone play a huge part in that percentage. Hollywood celebs have damaged the meaning of marriage. Why?

It seems to me that marriage and having children are treated superficially in Hollywood. Weddings are a fairytale and honeymoons are a vacation, but at some point the fun ends and real life begins. Sadly, it seems that real life never begins for most Hollywood celebrities. Being rich and famous and the center of attention often overshadow truth. So when the fun ends, so does the marriage…until the next attraction comes along.

In a way, it’s like a movie. The ceremony is planned, scripted and costumed. There’s a dress rehearsal, the big day, the post-party, the honeymoon…and then….real life. Every aspect of this ceremony, except real life, puts the couple in the spotlight, the place in which they thrive. Only with real life do the elements of a real marriage arise including love, respect, trust, honesty, commitment and communication. These are easier to uphold in good times but not so much in bad. The honeymoon is over!

I pray for teen girls who look up to celebrities and try to copy them. Hollywood stars are in their own world with their own rules. No matter what they do — even if it’s considered bad in the “real world” — they’re accepted and considered cool. But we’re all the same in the eyes of God. For Him the responsibilities in marriage are the same for everyone.

Colossians 3:18-19 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Marriage is sacred and it should be entered into with the belief that divorce is not an option, and this is why the actions of Hollywood celebrities cannot be an inspiration for others. We “regular people” are blessed because our understanding of marriage is not warped by a Hollywood lifestyle. Because we live in the real world, we understand that marriage is not a movie. At times it’s hard, it’s messy and it’s for life. But if you take the time to find and marry the person best suited to you, you will also be blessed with good and happy times for the rest of your life.

Why do you think Hollywood celebrities disregard the importance of marriage?

Is there anyone in your life that you need to forgive?

It makes me really sad to see how marriage is no longer sacred to the hollywood stars. 🙁

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands. . .” Take a look at that phrase and see if you can find what’s wrong with that. I agree with the whole “celebrity marriages never last long and it’s horrible.” But I felt the need to speak up about that phrase.

In hollywood, marriage is just a game. You get married, it doesn’t work out, you get divorced, and on to the next person. That’s how it always is, and I hope it doesn’t stay that way.

That’s so sad about their split… the poor kids… and it’s true, the Hollywood stars do sadly set an example to A LOT of people… about that last paragraph though –> AMEN AMEN AMEN AMEN AMEN AMEN… oh, and did I say — AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 <3

Why do they disregard it? Because, it’s EASIER. Like it’s easier to hide their pain with drugs and booze and sex…it’s easier to have a relationship that never sees the light of reality, it’s easier not to follow the straight and narrow path. And they think they can get away with it too, so the cycle comtinues.

Sorry. My last comment was meant in response to Nadia.

That’s a great analogy. Oftentimes relationships begin for the wrong reasons. People think they are in love when really they are just in lust. Love is often mistaken for the falling in love “sensation.” Give a relationship time, and when you have seen the other person in good times and bad, you can then decide whether you want to spend the rest of your life with them. True love is sticking with someone even when things are bad and they drive you crazy. This is why you should get to know a person for a while before getting married. This allows them to show their true colors, and for you to do the same.

no matter what the case we shouldn’t judge any of these people. it’s their lives

To be honest both of them seem really high maintenance people. I am shocked they lasted as long as they did to be honest!

Hollywood should treat marriage like a tattoo. Once it’s there, it’s there forever. If you remove it or paint over it , you can still see where the old ink was or you will go through mOre pain than when you got it. Just a thought

Now a days it just seems like when they meet the fire is burning so instead of waiting it out nd taking it step by step they rush right into marriage because they love eachother at the time, then after it’s all over the fire is blown out and they feel trapped in the relationship because they’re married, they divorce nd then move on with their lives, when really they should’ve just been dating the entire time.

I feel like something celebs/Hollywood over-emphasize about having a good marriage is the ‘need’ for great physical chemistry. Sure, it’s good to have chemistry with your spouse, but with all this talk of chemistry between this and that actor, it’s like telling girls “You have to marry a hot guy that just makes you weak at the knees, or else it’s gonna suck.” I mean, really? Here’s a secret: When I first got a clear look at this one boy, I thought “Hahaha–uh, no way. Not happening. Never. Nuh uh. Won’t even THINK about it.” Guess what? After, oh I dunno, a month or so? That same boy became my boyfriend. XD It was pretty ironic. Anyway, then he was just cuter to me the more I saw him but it was pretty much only because I liked who he was as a person to start with. 😛

Sometimes, people get married for the wrong reasons. They don’t think about how that disapoints God. We need to learn how to wait on the men God has for us instead of being in relationship after relationship.

I think that most Celebrities Take marriage as a Joke,It kind of remind me as a Show and tell Project.

I think it’s cool that Mariah Carrey and Nick Cannon are still married 🙂

As upsetting as this is, if you look at how long they were married, it was around 7 years. While that isn’t a crazy long time, at least they stayed together for THAT long. As much as I hate all of these celebrity marriage dramas and scandals, you have to give them credit for staying together for so long. Some Hollywood couples have worked out, and that is great! There are some that the man and the woman get married and then less than a year later they are seperated. I think that it’s sad to see J. Lo and Marc Anthony get divorced, but there are a lot more hollywood couples that give a bad example.

It’s so sad that hollywood marries are so fake. But I think it’s pretty cool the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have stayed married!
