The Jonas Brothers on Tour–Still Good Role Models, or Have They Strayed Too Far?

The Jonas Brothers are back! Though they were never really “gone” from popular culture, the brothers took a three-year hiatus to try out different things creatively. Now, all in one week, they’ve released a new song and music video, and have announced a summer tour.

But while the JoBros used to be known for their strong religious beliefs and mainstay promise rings, we’ve seen less of their squeaky-clean image as they’ve progressed through the industry. Though their music has almost always been secular, their new video features a group of gals who we wouldn’t mind giving a modest makeover.

We want to hear what you girls think! Are you fans of the band? Were you originally but not so much anymore? Why? Do you think you’d enjoy their music if they’d maintained a more public Christian witness? (We should note that we definitely aren’t saying the guys aren’t religious anymore! There’s no way to know that for sure–when it comes to celebrities, you have to remember that we’re only seeing a small part of the real story.)

Let us know your thoughts: Are the Jonas Brothers still wholesome, good role models, or have they strayed too far?

    Team Project Inspired
We here at Project Inspired want to guide and inspire teen girls to be true to themselves and to God. We want to show young girls how to be people of value and confidence – how to be your own best selves – through leading a Christian life. Who are we? We're a team of girls, like you. We edit the site, we post to social media, we hang out in the chat rooms and forums. We talk with you, we listen to you, and we love you!

    1. I think that this video shows that they’ve changed a lot, all of the girls need to be WAY more modest! And this song is a lot more secular than all of their other ones, i think. They’ve changed a lot but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still Christian

    2. Wow! ummm… not judging theire faith…. They put gospel singers in church robes in their sexual song?

“More to love when your hands are free
Baby put your pom poms down for me
Come on shake it up 123”

Do you expect me to think that’s about actually putting cheerleading pom poms down (as if they would make a whole song about that)

“Want you like kid just wants a milkshake
And I won’t let it go to waste if I get a taste
I’m gonna drink the whole thing”

And I suppose that’s about an actual milkshake?
Also during the whole song the girls are dressed so immodstly, in my opinion while they are provactively twirking.
Give me a break. They may still be Christian, but that’s not the first adjective I would think of when I saw that video. jus sayin….

      Just my opinion.

    3. I love the Jonas Brothers and I have always strongly believed (and still believe) that I will marry Nick Jonas (hahah, just kidding….but not really)

This video disappointed me though. I’ve pick Nick as a role model husband because of his faith and his actions. This music video kind of made me stray from that. But I still believe he and his brothers are still great Christians…I hope.

    4. Who are we to judge their faith?? Their faith is their own. We all struggle with sin at times, so even if they are, it’s not our place to say “oh, they’re bad boys now!” They’re talented men and like you always say, if you don’t like it, don’t listen/read/watch whatever.

    5. I have never liked the Jonas brothers and at first I thought that this song was just gonna be kinda fun, but the girls and the church choir kinda ruined it! All the girls need a modest makeover and adding a church choir is kinda disrespectful in my opinion. I mean it wasn’t horrible, but it isn’t good.

    6. I loved the Jonas Brothers. I still enjoy their old music, but havent heard the new song. They have lost all of my respect though. It actually makes me very sad to think how much I believed the and admired them, and everything they said they believed they have all shrugged off like it was nothing. Its very sad. It brakes my heart. Are they still wholesome? Not at all.

      • You lost your respect for someone you don’t even know? Seems to be judgmental to me. I think like everyone, they’re going through a time of confusion, and instead of cutting them off because they are “wholesome” enough for us, we should pray, not judge.

    7. It’s obvious they are trying to shed their “teen/kid” image and move up as ADULTS in the music industry. Nothing wrong with that.
But if they feel they gotta be trashy to do it, (and I highly feel that they are going that route), I am no longer a fan. I’ve been a huge JoBro fan for the longest but they’ve changed for the worst. They can be mature in other ways besides plain trashy. And the song kinda sucks. Soooo.

      • IKR! I hate when former child stars think that to show maturity in the industry, they have to forget their morals and where they started from. Being mature isn’t about so called “adult” activities, and I think that most singers/entertainers/actors etc who have been in the industry since childhood don’t realize that. They are so willing to not be “children” that they are willing to compromise for a new “image.”

    8. Never was a fan from the beginning. I’ve always felt like if they really were going after God, they would act like it more. Not that I’m perfect…but c’mon. In a way, it gives Christians a bad rep.

      • I just want to say that Christians already have a bad reputations because of the all the disgusting sex-filled Movies that Americans have produced because America is “supposed to be” a Christian nation.

    9. Didn’t even finish watching the video… was too grossed out. I remember their old tv show where in one episode they were trying to impress a delivery girl by eating all the pizza she delivered to them. That was only a few years ago. What happened??

      • @kateinwonderland99, It might not be our place to judge, but here’s something for you to chew on: you have to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. If you’re Christian, it should show. It’s not that we’ll never sin, it’s that when we do it matters to us and we repent. And we try to be a light. Maybe they do have a relationship with God, but that shouldn’t excuse how they act. Wrong is wrong.

    10. I’ve been a huge Jonas Brothers fan for years. I went to two of their concerts and went to see Nick on Broadway (even got his autograph!), but I must admit that I’m disappointed with where they have been going as of late. They have seemed to have edged out most of their Christian views they used to express. I still love them and I pray they do not stray further and that they’ll once again get more in touch with God.

    11. Wow… I have to admit. I’ve seen a lot of this since I started High School. One of my friends (whom I go to church and school with) has been acting like the world at school, but acting like a Christian at church. And to be honest, it makes me kind of angry. It’s made me think, God doesn’t need your worship on Sunday and Wednesday if you’re not going to act like a Christian for the rest of the week. He doesn’t need you out in the world, cheapening Christianity. I haven’t told her that, because I haven’t felt lead to yet.

I know we as Christians should not form an opinion of other people based on stuff like that, but we also need to realize that as Christians, the rest of the world has their eye on our every move. To be a Christian means to live under a microscope because people are looking at everything we do wrong. Non-Christians want to believe that Christians are bad, and if we’re not acting as Christ would, we’re basically letting them think that Christians are no different than the rest of the world. Why would they want to be a Christian if we’re like that? So Christians need to, by the grace of God, watch their actions, because you never know who is watching.

    12. This video shouldn’t have even been posted on here ,there are young kids on this site that shouldn’t be exposed to this kind of material.
Me myself was shocked when i watched this video ,especially with the clothes they were wearing ,the dancing ,and they way they were acting .
Most parents think this is a safe site for their children to go on,but it shows some inappropriate stuff some times.

    13. Man I used to be like their biggest fan! But I started noticing Joe Jonas changing when he started his solo career. Like what he was doing in his music videos. I was just like, “why??” But who am I to judge? I don’t know what’s going on in their lives and I don’t know what their relationships with God are like.

    14. I used to be a HUGE fan of the Jonas Brothers, but ‘Pom Poms’ was honestly culture shock compared to them three years ago! The song’s suggestive lyrics, and the music video which I would put a ‘PG-13’ rating on isn’t what they used to be. They were very clean guys at one time, and I miss that!

    15. I like the song, it’s got a rad beat to it, but the video was kind of a turn off… but I was just as worried about the half naked girls as I was about Nick’s head.

I am and will forever be a fan of the JoBros, but I think they might be straying a tad… :/

    16. Oh, I think they have definitely strayed, and changed. Considering the fact neither Joe nor Nick wear their purity rings anymore, and that there are girls in bikinis dancing suggestively in it. Most of the girls who were fans when they were really popular have also grown up, and I’m sure they’re trying to appeal to them now. Not to mention they’ve grown up as well, and I’m sure they feel a little beyond “Fly With Me” and “SOS”. And while they might claim to be Christians, you always need to look at what fruit they’re bearing, not what they claim to be. As Matthew 7 says… “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

    17. It’s too bad to see all those girls like that. I’m a fan of the horns in the background and the style of music, but I’d like it a whole lot more if they had those women dressed and dancing more appropriately.

    18. No! This is ridiculous. I may be bias because they are my favorite band in the world, but they haven’t even done anything to stray away from God! They had girls in their video… ok? So does every other artist. This might sound mean or rude, but they aren’t in the Christian music industry. They are Christians that are in pop/rock music. They are growing up. They shouldn’t be expected to be the same guys that they were when they were teenagers. They still always thank God in everything they do, Kevin and his wife DID wait until marriage to have sex, and in my opinion are all still fantastic role models. They have always done things and treated people with respect and class and just because they have girls that are dress immodest in a their video does not change my opinion on them or their beliefs.

    19. And by the way, I use to wear a purity and I legit lost it. Like, was walking up and down the street and it fell off my finger. That doesn’t make me any less a virgin than I was with the ring and I still have every intention to save my heart and body until marriage. Nick wears his around his neck and even if he didn’t or Joe doesn’t it isn’t our place to judge and try to figure out what they are doing because we don’t know them personally.

    20. I was so upset they have strayed from their roots. They used to just have great upbeat pop music and this was just nasty. Kevin is the only left who I’ve seen fairly level headed.. But either way this music video was absolutely awful and I hope they’re still keeping their faith and can see what they’re doing wrong in their music…

    21. Well they are getting older and people need to do specific things in order to grow as people and to grow one with GOd. Everyone makes mistakes and they question their faith… Maybe it is just a moment for them. They are good guys and Disney Channel is known to change people. Maybe they should be given a chance.

    22. I never real saw them as role models to start with…(come on, 10 year old, public school, cute boy band. nuff said XD) but if they ever really were role models, they so arent anymore.

    23. I’ve never been a big fan of them, I actually never listened to them at all. But I had some respect for them since they had the purity rings and all that. It definitely looks like they’ve changed.

    24. I am kind of dissapointed in them. I liked their Tv show and some of their music but this is not anything like they claimed to be. I sure hope they’re all staying pure and that nick will grow his hair back because he totally ruined it. I really pray that people including them will turn away from this song and forget about it. This song is nothing like the others that most people like WAY better.

    25. I hate this song. I dont know if its just me but it seems to send a sexul message. And those girls could really use some cloths. I loved the old jobros because they had this kinda of old school spin on there music but now man im just dissapointed.

    26. I never really was a big fan. I mean, I loved Camp Rock, but that’s because I like Demi Lovato. They said they were Christian, but I feel like they’re either falling away from God, or they never really were Christian in the first place.
