June Book Club: “The Choosing”

Hello beautiful Book Club girls,

With summer just around the corner, there’s no better time than now to introduce you to The Choosing by Rachelle Dekker. If her last name sounds familiar, it’s because Rachelle is the oldest daughter of Ted Dekker, a New York Times best-selling author of Christian mystery novels. Rachelle was inspired early on in life to “discover truth through storytelling” and The Choosing is her very first novel.

I have to say, girls—I love this book! Her writing style is so refreshing and I think you girls will be able to relate to the main character, Carrington Hale. All seventeen years of Carrington’s life were in preparation for one big day: the day she’d either be chosen as some man’s wife or be torn away from her family to spend the rest of her days as a Lint, the lowest level of society. Unfortunately, her Choosing Ceremony did not go as planned and she was forced to say farewell to her parents and her little brother. Throughout the remainder of the book, Carrington struggles to define her worth and to restore order to her crumbling world. With each new chapter and every turn of the page, you’ll learn more about Carrington and, hopefully, yourself as well.

What I really love about The Choosing is that it is a God-centered book and it illustrates how unpredictable life can be, especially when it comes to dating and marriage. As girls, we tend to tie our worth into a man. However, Carrington’s story proves that there are so many other ways to find self-value and inner happiness. You don’t need a man to feel worthy! Sometimes, God reminds us of that by sending us on an unpredictable journey so that we can discover ourselves and live to our fullest potential.

Girls, if you’re ready to start your summer off with a great read, I recommend picking up Rachelle Dekker’s The Choosing! You can find it at your local bookstore or order it here.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with this message from the author herself:

God bless you, girls!

Sorry to nitpick, but Ted Dekker is a Christian /thriller/ author. Some might even say he edges on horror. While he does have the aspect of mystery in his novels, he is far from a mystery author. (“Mystery” means detectives and suspects and (usually) murder. Sherlock Holmes is true mystery.)

Sorry. Time for the crazy writer-nerd to crawl back in her hole.
