Leeland’s “Chains Hit the Ground”
Written by Christi Given | September 20, 2013
PI Girls, this week I decided to cover Leeland, a worship band fronted by lead singer Leeland Mooring. The band is so inspiring…I believe they could become some of the youngest yet boldest leaders of our generation! Their music is so anointed and the lyrics to their songs are extremely powerful and touching.
This particular song, “Chains Hit the Ground,” is one of my favorites and I am honored to do a cover. It’s a simple acoustic, raw version (nothing fancy), but I sing the basic melody beginning in the bridge and into the main chorus, which is my favorite part of the song.
Some of my favorite lyrics from the song are:
For all of my years, my banner will be clear… And I remember the nails that You took for me, when You died in my shame and iniquity… Jesus, You have set me free… The thorns of my pain You wore in a crown, when You bowed Your head, Your love was poured out… And my chains hit the ground…

PI Girls, have you heard of Leeland? What is your favorite part of this song, or do you have another song that has impacted your life? Comment below! We love hearing from you!
