Our lives are filled with so many blessings, sometimes we forget to count the most basic ones that are vital to our health and protection—like the shoes on our feet.
There are those in this world who aren’t fortunate enough to have the very basics from day to day, including shoes. Can you image walking around all day without shoes? It would change your whole life!
In developing countries, young children often don’t have shoes and this has dire consequences, including the fact that they’re unable to go to school, limiting their ability to flourish in life. Also, when people walk around with no protection on their feet, you can only imagine the diseases and injuries they’re exposed to.
Soles4Souls is a ministry that’s dedicated to helping people in other countries who don’t have access to shoes. It was inspired by the aftermath of the tsunami that hit Southeast Asia in 2004. The founder, Wayne Elsey, was watching news coverage of the event when he saw footage of a shoe wash up on shore. At the time, he was the president of a shoe company. He felt he was called to a bigger purpose, and from that moment, he decided to give shoes to people in need.
When Hurricane Katrina hit, he sent more than one million shoes to those who had lost everything. Now, his non-profit collects donated shoes and sends them to people around the world. Soles4Souls is teaming up with Permara to also distribute socks–it’s called “Share the Perfect Pair” program.
Girls, you can help and be a part of this movement. One big way is to go online and find the different drop-off locations to donate shoes and clothes.
