Modest Is Hottest – My Insider’s Opinion on the Music Industry

As a singer and TV host, I’ve seen firsthand how Hollywood constantly pushes the envelope, especially when it comes to “sex appeal.” As they say, “sex sells,” and in the entertainment industry many young girls get deceived and buy into this trick of the enemy.

Even when I was younger, I thought dressing “sexy” was the thing to do. This is what Hollywood and the media tells us. Magazines, commercials and music videos give the implication that if you don’t dress a certain way or wear certain brands, you’re not good enough or pretty enough.

Girls, this is a flat out LIE from satan! God created you perfectly and uniquely and designed you to shine from within.

It isn’t against God to dress nicely or to wear nice perfume or makeup–just don’t overdo it. Also, the focus shouldn’t be in our exterior but on our inward love for Jesus. We all have different tastes and styles, but we need to remember that what we wear and how we present ourselves sends a message.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight (1 Peter 3:3-4).

Do you want to represent immoral, worldly forms of dress or classy, pure attire that is cute but is modest? I personally have changed my look and style over the years. Back in high school, I was on the cheerleading team, so we all wore short skirts and had fun wearing makeup and curling our hair for games.

I also tried to replicate Britney Spears’ look and her dances, as she was the “pop princess” of the time. But as many of you know, she didn’t represent modesty. I loved her music and routines as a dancer, but I now see that I was young and naïve and didn’t realize the message you send when you are not as modest.

No one is perfect, but it is so good to make the effort! There are so many ways to look cute and in style without wearing low-cut tops and revealing clothes. There are cute sweaters, leggings and long dresses that are so beautiful! Also, remember that when we read the Word, we will become more beautiful on the inside and will shine outwardly.

Once you realize your mistakes or your flaws, God is so faithful in seeing you and your heart and gives you a fresh start! Even if you believe you have been dressing immodestly or inappropriately and feel convicted, you can start over and choose today to dress in a more modest fashion!

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

PI readers, if you have a certain look and want more style ideas, comment below! Or let us know how you have changed your style and if you have become a “modest is hottest” girl! We love you and are proud of you for being different, shining your light and being the beauty God has designed you to be!

Hi, my name is Holly! I am 18 and I have become a “modest is hottest” girl! I used to always try to show cleavage and try to make sure my body looked okay because (it makes me wanna cry) my parents and my family imply ofen that I have small boobs and that it’s a disappointment. They all are super blonde and have huge boobs. It still really hard for me that I am nearly a brunette and have size B boobs, sometimes fitting into an A. But anyway, it’s much of a relief to become accustomed to God’s way because I know I have a beautiful soul.

I love this article, and you ladies look amazing in that photo! You guys are beautiful both inside and out. However, I do not agree with the statement “modest is hottest.” “Hot” actually means “sexual”, and the point of modest clothing is not to look sexy. It’s to show that you are a beautiful child of the King who can be cute without being a harlot.

This is a great article! I always try to be modest wherever I go! I dont know what my “style” is though, perhaps classy 🙂 Also…I do have to agree that your tops are both a bit low, if you were to bend over

This is a fantastic article!! 🙂 Modesty is always on the top of my list when picking out clothes, I can’t stand it when I feel like my clothes are in anyway immodest, whether it he too tight of a low neckline. I just don’t like it. Sometimes I think I look immodest even when it truly doesn’t. It’s really important to me, so this article is a great reinforcement of my beliefs. 😀

My style going in to this new year is kind of like a cute vintagey style. I bought some really cute clothes for school and I made sure they were modest. I want to show my belief through how I act and even how I look. 🙂

I just want to add one thing. A couple people said that your shirts were too low cut and the small ammount of cleavage of showing was immodest. I, however, don’t really agree. I think both of your tops look fine, I don’t find them to be immodest at all. They look cute on both of you, and I’m pretty sure God wouldn’t frown on you for wearing either of them.

Anyway, I love this article, it’s fantastic. I think it’s something a lot of girls need to hear. Thank you!! 😀

Thank you! I am actually wearing an under shirt and my t-shirt is a little baggy. Nicole has discussed before than the way she is sometimes looks like its low cut but it is not..maybe a sweater would be nice! I think her dress is cute. We are all trying, amen girls?! Great opinions and advice! Keep it coming! 🙂 Jesus loves you!!

It’s not whether YOU think it’s immodest, it’s whether or not GUYS think it’s immodest. Guys’ brains and our brains work very differently. Any amount of cleavage sets their imagination off…
But Nicole, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your dress! Personally I’d wear something under it, I wouldn’t be comfortable with the lowness of it, but it’s fantastic! I can never find figure-flattering dresses like that, it seems.

I dislike being judgemental, but I agree with the above post. Most men who see ANY cleavage will be tempted to sin. It is a fact. There are definitely ways to be cute and modest! Great article. (:

Not only should modesty reflect on what you wear, but it should be on in what you say and do. You can dress modestly, but you shouldn’t sound like you are super smart and seem to know the answer to everything, because then you are a show-off. I don’t know about anyone else here, but I just HATE it when people talk down to me thinking that they’re so much better and so much more “holy” than me because they’re really NOT. It’s just like being a store manager dressed in proper buisness attire and not listening to what the customers’ wants and needs.

I agree, what you say definitely reflects your heart, and if you’re dressed outwardly as modest but your speech isn’t that can be the same as being dressed immodestly and visa versa…Both should be as modest as possible! 🙂

Hi! This is a great post and a message that every teen girl needs to know. The only thing is that the picture is kind of different than the message. Both of you have low cut tops on which for my definition of “modest is hottest,” does not exactly match. I feel that a true definition of “modest is hottest” would be no visible cleavage at all.
Keep on with the great messages!
