Modest Is Hottest! Shay Mitchell Stuns on the Red Carpet and We Give One Star a Makeover!

Ladies, I hope you’re enjoying these “Modest Is Hottest” posts. We pray they offer you fun ideas for modest style. As Christians, we should strive to be modest in our appearance, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look cute!

I understand some of you are concerned about using the word “hot,” assuming it means to be “sexy.” But let’s not forget that “hot” can mean many things. “Hot” often means “fresh” or “new.” It also can mean “popular,” “cool” and “trendy.” It does have negative meanings, such as “stolen” and, yes, “sexy.” But it also means “pretty” and “cute,” and these are the definitions we’re using when we say “modest is hottest.”

So let’s get on with this week’s selection!

emmy-rossum

Emmy Rossum

This sleek dress is very feminine, and although the design is simple, it’s enhanced by the stunning fabric.

shay-mitchell

Shay Mitchell

I love this adorable strapless dress! The color is absolutely stunning and the length is just perfect.

julianne-hough

Julianne Hough

Sparkles are great, aren’t they? And this beautiful dress, with capped sleeves and a great length, is sprinkled with sparkles!

emma-watson

Emma Watson

Emma! You’re usually pretty modest in your style, but this dress, although unique in print, is just way too short, tight and revealing! Ladies, do you agree?

Poll

Do you think Emma Watson's dress needs an Inspired Makeover, or is it just right?

I love all three of these dresses, and would just like to say that I find them very sexy, in fact the only one I find unsexy is the fourth immodest dress. Sexy doesn’t have to be bad, nor does it mean revealing or sexual. In fact consistently on this site I have found the modest outfits sexier and upon asking a couple male friends and my brothers found they agreed, which is not to say that they viewed any of those women as sex objects or as stumbling blocks (all of them were Christians). This is the second time I have read on this sight that sexy is somehow negative and I find that to be unfortunate as sexy and modest are not mutually exclusive. Also if you assign a word like that a universally negative meaning what does that say about a wife looking sexy for her husband in the privacy of their home? this is obviously in no way sinful based on biblical teaching. you have a platform here, and I felt the need to say that you should be careful in how you assign words good and bad connotations, or assume a meaning that is not held by the people your dressing out of respect for (according to other posts). I really don’t mean to be negative I just strongly felt the need to address this.

That first dress doesn’t go with Emmy’s figure. The color is okay, But not a fan of the style.

It’s too bad about Emma’s dress, really. She’s been a celebrity I’ve looked up to for a while because of her modesty. 🙁

I LOVE Emmy Rosum’s dress!! But Emma’s could definitely use some work…the print is fun and it’s trendy, but it just needs to be longer and looser. That would honestly make it look much better!

I totally love the first three dresses! My favorite has to be the 2nd one. I just love the color and the size is just right and so is the neckline. I’m so liking Emmy’s and Julianne’s dresses. They’re a very nice and deep color and they both have plenty of sparkles. And as for the last one, I’ve been told that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all so Emma please just cover up more!

I LOVE EMMY ROSSUM! Because of her role in Phantom of the Opera, ha ha. She is not the greatest role model, but her voice is beautiful. I was so excited to see her featured in this week’s article! Thank you!

I want Julianne’s dress so badly!! I think Emma’s dress would look better if there weren’t so many cutouts on top and if the skirt was longer and looser. I wish more celebs would set better examples for teen girls by dressing modestly on a regular basis-it especially makes me sad when I see my favorites, like Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and both Emma Watson and Emma Stone dress…not so appropriately.

I LOVE all four dresses. SO cute. Shay’s isn’t exactly my style but it suits her. If Emma’s wasn’t so short and revealing, I would love it, but it’s a little too much. I love the Modest is Hottest posts 🙂

Those 3 dresses are very modest and super cute. I think this has to be one of my favorite “Modest is Hottest” articles! Shay’s dress has to be one of the most modest strapless dresses I’ve seen yet – it has a high neckline and it goes to the knees. It’s adorable too!

I really like the first dress! It’s very elegant, sleek, and stylish. Plus, I always loved wearing long dresses, although knee length ones usually look better on me because of my height.

    Oh, I see what you mean about the whole “hot” thing now. I guess most of us have gotten so accustomed to hearing “hot” meaning sexy, that we forget the other definitions. I feel kinda silly now. ^_^;
Anyway, I like the looks of Julianne and Shay’s dresses. (:
