Nail Tutorial: Negative Space with a Splash of Coral

Unless you’ve been living under a rock with Patrick Star, you’ve seen this new trend in nail design called “negative space.” We even wrote an article about it a few months ago.

We absolutely LOVE this trend! The designs are unique and SUPER easy to re-create. Here’s a tutorial that we put together for a cute and chic coral design. We hope you like it!

What you’ll need:

  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Coral nail polish
  • Clear nail polish
  • A pair of hands 😉

Step 1:

Cut 10 small strips of tape and place them on your nails as shown in the photo above. Ideally, you want the tape to sit closer to the top of your nail bed. However, this is your creative space, so feel free to place the tape as high or as low as you’d like.

Step 2:

Now for the fun part! Grab your coral nail polish and paint the exposed area above the tape. It’s totally okay if you get paint on the tape. With the very tip of the brush, place a small dot at the bottom of your nail bed.

Step 3:

Remove the tape and admire your handiwork! For extra shine, apply a thin layer of clear polish over each nail and allow to dry for a few minutes.

Any suggestions for our next nail tutorial?

I’ve naturally long nails…. (people r always asking me, “How do u get ur nails like that?!” XD) so the French tip thing is never usually a prob for me…. but this time, I decided to do my French tips w/ an added special on top: a plaid coating. To create it, I started w/ a base clear coat, let it dry, then added my unique-patterned French tips on my nails. Next, after letting that dry, I took two differently colored nail art polishes and did thin stripes (the trick is to do no more than 2-3 stripes of each color per nail, or it’ll seem waaaayyy too crowded) diagonally across each nail. I let that dry, then applied the same pattern, same two colors, in the opposite diagonal direction, across the other stripes (tip w/ the second set of strips: you’ll want to make these translucent, not opaque), add top coat after it dries, then voila! Plaid French tipped nails! Mine turned out pretty well on my left hand, right was a bit sketchy coz I’m not ambidextrous… -_- *sighs* but at least the one hand turned out nice; I’ll try to leave the link if anyone wants to see…

(It’s the last pic in the album…. and yes, I am a jamberry nails fan, though for some reason I can’t, for the life of me, get them on right w/ my fingers, and if I do they don’t last long so I usually go toes instead… XD)
