Dear beautiful Book Club girls,
Happy November, a month of beautiful days and being thankful. I am so thankful that you are joining me this month in reading Sadie Robertson’s first book, Live Original: How the Duck Commander Teen Keeps It Real and Stays True to Her Values. Sadie is the 17-year-old daughter of Willie and Korie Robertson and a star on her family’s TV show, Duck Dynasty, and more recently on Dancing with the Stars. She has been doing an amazing job of being her original, happy self—even on major television shows, Fashion Week runways and many media appearances.
Live Original is a great book because it’s positive and upbeat, filled with stories about how Sadie maintains her joy and her faith in the middle of fame, fortune and sometimes her fears. In her new book, Sadie tells how she keeps her integrity, her smile, her friendships, and her love for her family and Jesus—even when times get tough.
I love the way her parents and grandparents have taught her to be herself, to be happy, to perform acts of random kindness and to have confidence. In Live Original, Sadie shares all the good advice she has received, the things she has learned for herself, and the ways she has developed her prayer life and Bible-reading in order to keep herself on the right track to live a life that is pleasing to God.
I love, love, love this quote from the book because it’s the way I try to live, too: “Think happy, be happy.” Sounds simple, right? When we focus our thoughts on doing things the right way and choosing to be happy, our feelings and actions line up with the way we are thinking. Sadie shares many Bible verses throughout the book, but says this is one of her favorites: “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.” (Psalm 68:3, NIV)
I think that’s a great verse too.
As we head into this Thanksgiving season, this is a great book to put us in the right frame of mind—to love God, love ourselves and love others. And to make this the best November we’ve ever had.
Blessings, and let’s be Happy, Happy, Happy,
