“Obamacare,” Diem Brown Loses Fight With Cancer, Ferguson, MO and Other Things We’re Talking About This Week

Here’s a quick recap of a few things happening in the world this week.

“Obamacare” Architect Calls American Voters Stupid. This week numerous video clips were released showing Johnathan Gruber, the architect for the affordable healthcare plan publicly speaking about the motivations behind “Obamacare.” The White House  and democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, have since tried to distance themselves from Gruber, but additional sources and videos have indicated otherwise.  Read more about this story.

Diem Brown loses battle with cancer. After an extensive fight with cancer, MTV reality star Diem Brown passed this week. The 32 year old had been battling ovarian cancer since her early twenties and later colon cancer, but throughout her ordeal, she remained positive and an inspiration to her fans. Brown blogged about her struggles for People magazine. Ladies, let’s pray that God brings peace and comfort to those feeling the pain of loss.  Read more about this story.

Ferguson braces for grand jury decision. Ferguson, MO, and other cities in the nation are awaiting a grand jury decision related to the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. They will be deciding whether to indict the Ferguson Police Officer, Darren Wilson who shot him. In response to the damaging riots and looting that followed the incident in August, Ferguson officials are bracing themselves and preparing for further violence following the upcoming grand jury decision.  Read more about this story.

Muslims pray in Episcopal Cathedral. This past week, the Episcopal Washington National Cathedral hosted it’s first Muslim prayer service. While organizers defended the move as a positive step in fostering understanding and tolerance between the Christian and Muslim communities, Christian critics, including  Rev. Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, are outraged, saying, “It’s sad to see a church open its doors to the worship of anything other than the One True God of the Bible who sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins.”  Read more about this story.

Putin receives frosty reception at G20 meeting. Western leaders made their feelings known to Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin at the G20 meeting which began this past weekend in Brisbane, Australia. Putin is in the midst of a conflict with neighboring Ukraine, which began in the beginning of 2014 following the ousting of the Ukrainian president. Since then, Putin has initiated an invasion into Ukraine, beginning with Crimea. Read more about this story.
