Proverbs 31 as Told in Pictures

    Proverbs 31:10-31 (The Message)

    “Hymn to a Good Wife”

10-31 A good woman is hard to find,
and worth far more than diamonds.

Her husband trusts her without reserve,
and never has reason to regret it.

Never spiteful, she treats him generously
        all her life long.

She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,
        and enjoys knitting and sewing.

She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places
        and brings back exotic surprises.

She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast
for her family and organizing her day.

She looks over a field and buys it,
then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden.

First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,
rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.

She senses the worth of her work,
is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.

She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth,
        diligent in homemaking.

She’s quick to assist anyone in need,
reaches out to help the poor.

    She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows;
their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.

    She makes her own clothing,
and dresses in colorful linens and silks.

    Her husband is greatly respected
when he deliberates with the city fathers.

She designs gowns and sells them,
brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.

Her clothes are well-made and elegant,
and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.

When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say,
and she always says it kindly.

She keeps an eye on everyone in her household,
and keeps them all busy and productive.

    Her children respect and bless her;
her husband joins in with words of praise:

“Many women have done wonderful things,
        but you’ve outclassed them all!”

Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
    Give her everything she deserves!

    Festoon her life with praises!

    1. No Loki this time but Sherlock Holmes!!! Unfortunately I have not been able to watch the show yet, because my Mom is previewing it for me and my brother, but I have read all the stories Mr. Doyle wrote about him and I love him! And the one about getting up before dawn to make breakfast is pretty funny.;)

    2. Can I say, this is not honoring to God’s Word, whatsoever…. I am a great supporter of Project Inspired since the beginning, however I do not support it when people begin to joke around with God’s Word. We are to honor God’s Name word and works, and this is treating God’s Word as a joke and as something to play around with…. I would love to see some honor instilled in these sorts of things not flippant joking…. Colossians 3:17 says: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” We are to glorify God and have a sense of reverence whenever we use his scripture not dishonor him in such obvious ways… 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I really appreciate Project Inspired and everything you guys are accomplishing, however I would really love to see some respect for God’s word and reverence, and this post is not showing the kind of respect that God deserves.
Anyway, I am not say this to be harsh or mean but to bring attention for the reverence that our Lord and Savior truly deserves from us, His people.

    3. I kind of object to the translation here, because it is one very specific interpretation of the Hebrew text, edits and changes the writer’s actual words in many places, and doesn’t capture the spirit of the passage. The message is that a woman provides for her family, in all aspects of their lives. This version makes it seem like all a woman should concern herself with is the mundane chores of a household. For example, nowhere does the original passage say “she enjoys knitting and sewing”. What it actually says is more similar to the ESV’s “she works with willing hands”. In other words, a good wife is willing and happy to give her time and work to provide for and clothe her family. She is admirable because she gives her time and effort ungrudgingly, not because she particularly likes to knit or sew. The passage certainly never says “first thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started”, but actually says something along the lines of getting up early, providing food and assigning tasks– be they inside or outside the home. Words are powerful things, and when it comes to the word of God, the closer a translation comes to the original language, the more accurate and unbiased it is.

    4. Haha I love these. My favorite was the one with Jennifer and the knife. That was hilarious! It’s really cool, lately I have been studying Proverbs 31 and am working on applying the concepts to my life. I pray that I will become a Godly women and future wife for my husband. God keeps using little reminders every where I go and in everything I read about this passage. I love how God orchestrates many different encounters to reveal to us His plan for our lives!

    5. I absolutely love this! It really inspires me to work hard and live without fear of the future. This chapter explains exactly why I can’t wait to be mom and housewife! Not to mention the gif of the little girl and dog was SO cute!!!
