DeVon Franklin, the former senior VP of Columbia TriStar Pictures, is a current Sony executive and the founder/president of Franklin Entertainment. He wrote a book called Produced by Faith: Enjoy Real Success Without Losing Your True Self, and now he and his wife, actress Meagan Good, have released their book entitled The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life and the Life You Love. The couple met on the set of the film Jumping the Broom, started a courtship, and decided to wait until marriage and be an example of purity through their faith.
The book The Wait is, of course, about waiting to have sex until marriage, and waiting for other aspects in life. The book has “his” and “her” accounts regarding love and life, and has practical advice. Franklin is not only a film executive, but also produced the movie Miracles From Heaven, speaks at his local church, has been endorsed by many major networks and has blessed many people with his testimony. Meagan Good, in an interview on CBS This Morning, said that there is a difference in her and her husband’s opinion on the definition and view of abstinence and celibacy. She said that they didn’t want to give into the temptation of having premarital sex and agreed to have patience in the process of dating (courting) into marriage.
“Abstinence is just, ‘Hey I’m not doing it.’ And we say, well, sometimes you can be abstinent because you don’t have options,” Good said. “But we define celibacy as abstaining from sex because there’s a higher purpose and a higher calling and we believe that it is specifically related to marriage.”
Wow, I love the fact that these two are taking a stand in our culture, where people think it’s okay to sleep around and/or to just give in to whatever pleasures come your way. Waiting can be hard, but it’s powerful to be patient and to trust in God. There are great rewards for those who wait on the Lord (Isaiah 40:31)! The couple eventually wed and are shining stars in Hollywood.
