Putting on the Full Armor of God: Battling Spiritual Warfare
Written by Christi Given | November 20, 2012
As we all know, life isn’t easy. Especially as believers, we need to realize there is a spiritual battle that rages against us. It is so important as Christians to be aware of this battle and know how to equip ourselves, be alert and help other believers through tests, trials and spiritual battles. Before we start our days, we need to protect and cover our minds with prayer and the Word of God.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rules of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:11-12).
In these verses, we learn that our battles are not against people, but spirits in the heavenly and spiritual places. Sometimes we can feel this tension or see it through circumstance, but most of it we cannot see.
Sometimes it is hard because we may have someone come against us, say mean things about us, or even disrespect our faith. But the Lord God Almighty reminds us in His Holy Word that it isn’t really against flesh that we are fighting, but the spiritual war that is raging for us as believers. The good news is that we have the victory! We need to learn HOW to overcome these different trials and battles and how to be more watchful!
Verses 13-20 of Ephesians 6 explain the importance of wearing the full armor of God, which is praying, reading God’s word (our sword–the most important weapon in battle!), wearing truth, peace, faith and so on.
Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak (Ephesians 6: 13-20).
PI readers, it is vital to read God’s word wearing your helmet of salvation, belt of truth, shoes of peace, the sword of the spirit, the shield of faith and the breastplate of righteousness. When men go to war in the battlefield, they have their protection on. Our protection is the word of God and prayer. Don’t leave home without it!
Keep this in mind and remember that when you DO have on your full armor, you will be victorious in Christ and will be able to overcome any schemes of the enemy! Amen!
