Q&A – Can You Stay Strong in Hollywood and Still be Successful?

Do you believe that if you’re grounded in Jesus and have a wonderful, supportive family, you can stay strong in Hollywood and still be successful?

Absolutely! Anything is possible with God. But it won’t be easy. Hollywood is full of temptation. In your journey to find success, you will be tempted in many ways. Your faith will be questioned, your beliefs likely ridiculed and your integrity tested.

Colossians 2:8 – Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

There are ways, however, that you can remain faithful to God, even in Hollywood. Consider the following:

1. Always put God first. Remember that in everything you say and do, you need to glorify God. Whether your gift is as a musician or an actor, you should find a way to direct that gift toward glorifying God. You don’t have to be a Christian singer or select Christian-specific movies, but make sure that even in mainstream entertainment you devote your art to God. And this means ensuring that all your movies or lyrics please Him.

2. If your parents instilled and nurtured your faith in Jesus Christ, then allow them to continue. Stay connected with your parents. Continue to glorify God with them on a regular basis, whether it’s by attending church together or praying together. Remaining connected to your parents and family is always a great way to remain grounded in your faith.

3. Remain in contact with your Christian friends and surround yourself with more good successful Christians in Hollywood. Being around other Christians will help you remain devoted. It will also make it easier to continue your relationship with God if you have others around you who are doing the same.

4. Continue any Christian traditions that connect you to your faith. This will ensure that your new life is just an enhanced version of your old life. Traditions will remind you of where you came from and who you are. You can carry this with you as you become successful in Hollywood.

Stay strong in your desire to remain faithful to the Lord. This way, when you’re faced with temptations that promise elevation in your career, you will refuse them. You don’t want to sell your soul for the sake of fame.  Be true to God and yourself and you will be just fine.

Proverbs 3:5-6 -Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be an actress! But as I got older, I began to see what it does to people. When I read this article, the dream began to grow in me again!
I believe that if I stay true to God (and if I ever become successful) I can survive Hollywood!

But I can’t move the four hours south to hollywood bcuz even tho my parents are proud and thankful for my talents, they despise hollywood and honestly hate the whole acting/performing scene. so ive been restricted to school stuff and even then my parents still pull me out of things they think are too innappropriate. this is really encouragin thatnks! 🙂

Thank you so much for this! I was on the fence about going back to high school (I do online because I know God has a greater purpose for me and a bigger plan) because I missed all of my friends! But this reminded me of why I chose online school in the first place. And now I feel a lot better about everything. This couldn’t have come at a better time, my mom is meeting with a modeling and acting agent tomorrow. I can’t explain how much this helped me and reopened my eyes to the greater plan God has for me! Thank you!! 😀

Is kissing in movies displeasing to God? Almost every movie contains a kiss or even other sexual content…

    • Posted by on October 1, 2011 at 23:04

i think it really depends…on the context, the type of kiss, and the message.

This is so nice to hear! I was just on facebook and saw an ad for this website and it seemed interesting, so I clicked on it. I was just skimming through the articles and found this one. I’ve had a dream of becoming a singer and actress since, well, forever! I read this and decided if I do become famous (which probably won’t happen) then I will try to stay on the principals GOD gives us and not let the fame take over.

With God, all things are possible. This includes keeping your ground in Hollywood. That’s why I like Selena Gomez. She’s a very faithful celebrity. In all of her albums, the first person she thanks is Jesus! 🙂 It’s beautiful! I really look up to her, she inspires me greatly. 😀

  14. Posted by on August 22, 2011 at 19:22

I don’t want to be famous. With fame comes money (almost always) and with a combination of both comes many struggles for these people. Paparazzi stalking you everywhere you go–watching your every move. Having to look just right every second of your life. If I ever were to be famous, I’d want to be like Nicole–using my fame for God’s glory, not my’n. 🙂

thank you so so much Morgan for telling me this!! you have no idea what it means to me!!

Very true article,I can also tell when artists or actors change, the way they talk, dress, and what kind of work they are doing, for example Miley Cyrus she seemed liked a good girl but then changed and miley, miley’s mother, stopped talking to bill cyrus and he said to the media that he blamed Hollywood, and then he apologized for saying that mabey they threatened him who knows? We should all pray for the media,we should have a day where many christians, catholics whoever believes in God,Jesus, have a prayer march for the media [:

    • Posted by on September 5, 2011 at 21:13

Yes, we should TOTALLY have a day of praying for the media!!!

I believe that these celebrities are insecure. Because Hollywood is such a competitive industry, young stars are so afraid that they will fade out into the background as newer stars are discovered. So they become outrageous in an attempt to be noticed.
